i was just reading some old post about rod ends on split wishbones. they were talking about making sure to use "double shear" . im not familiar with this term, can anyone school me on this?

thanks, john

If you had a tang welded to the frame with a hole in it, and the rod end was bolted to it in a normal fashion, that would be considered "single shear". If you have two tangs welded to a frame with the rod end between them, and a bolt passed through all three items, (tang, rod end, tang,) then that set up is considered "double shear". The bolt and rod end are now supported on both sides/ends, and it is a much stronger set up.

I found a picture that will explain single vs. double shear.
