I have found a tight cast iron corvair box. It has the long steering shaft. What options do I have to connect it to the column? Does someone sell a new splined input shaft? All the u-joints I have found are for the splined shafts. I have heard you dont want to weld steering components. Thanks for any help.

How ever you have weld it just make sure they put the ground on the same side of the steering u joint as there welding. If you put he ground on the other side you can destory the needle or balls in the joint.

When I weld a u-joint to a steering shaft I also put a roll pin through the assembly, for insurance. I think the Corvair shaft is 5/8" diameter so you might have a hard time finding a weld on u-joint that size.
