Any one have any ideas on how to go about'' making from scratch, home made'' suicide door henges????
I know i could just buy them ,but i wanna try to make a set for my 26 coupe.

I saw some on a kit cobra article years ago, but I have the magazine out on loan. Maybe try a search off of that. The ones I saw would be way easy to do and cheap too.
If you can't find anything, let me know and I'll take crayon to paper and try to draw it

thanks man, i havent had time to really comb the net yet ,mabie on my next day off if i get one.

Im currently building a 29 ford sedan, and I built my own suicide hinges. I used an old small jack handle for the tubing on the door part of the hinges, I boxed the "B" pillar in, and notched out 2 C channels for the hinges to swing threw. They havnt been cleaned up at all, so its all still rough metal/weld. Its a rat rod, and I love the way it looks.

Nice work. Thinkin bout going that route seein how right door hinge is junk.

homemade hinges

heres some pics of mine. keep in mind some of these are just in mock up stage and not finish welded ground or anything. i think you get the general mechanics of it though from the shots.

then the next set, remember to keep a dowel rod between both the hinges and the mounts to keep a paralel plane between the two or the door will bind. dp1

and after hanging the door i added a ten pound weight to simulate the glass and crank assemblies.

i used 1x2 3/16s rect. tubing for the uprights

1/4 thick by 2 inch wide plate for the hinges themselves (bent into a u shape.)

chrome moly shock bushing mount inserts for the pivots 4 per side(speedway) they have 3/8s inside diameter witch happens to be the same size as the house door hinge pins from home depot.

the doors open and close with the touch of a finger, close solid and tight. i used speedways version of the bear claw latches they were 12.00 bucks each. hope this helps dp1
