Ha! and there lye the problem. :D . It's always great when I don't have to roll the dice in hopes of finding something that works and you get your money's worth. A personal recommendation or what's good (or not) carries some weight with me these days.

Going to face the bluetooth choice also. Electronic techno stuff is definitely not in my wheelhouse.... 😵‍💫🤪

I bought an el-cheapo back up camera for my coupe. It was simply to wire and has been functioning well for around 5 years now. The picture isn't as clear as it was when the camera was new, but for less then $50 back then, I figure when I need to replace it, it won't kill me. The car sits outside in the north west corner of IL year around, so the camera itself is exposed to all the weather. The cheap camera package only has one camera, so the rear view is from the center of the car. I can see with in about 6" of the bumper, but there is an adjustment time to get used to the picture. Since I couldn't see anything behind the car, the rear view didn't take long to be much better!

The one I have bolts to the license plate mounting screws, is powered by the back up lights with simple wiring for the view screen, and the view screen is about 4" diagnose. I have it mounted above the windshield on my 48 Plymouth coupe. Without that camera, I can't see anything behind the car, the widest point is at the back edge of the front doors.

Using a backup cam takes some getting used to. We have one in our RAV4 and being old I most times don't even use it. They are nice though when you remembervto look at it. I had one on my pickup years ago I put on. Biggest problem was the small screen that came with it and where to mount it. Get the biggest screen that will fit in your car. Jim

I just took over my step-dad's truck with one. Never had one previously. Using it to back up on a trailer is unbelievably great. As a result, I'm putting one under the back end of the flat bed pointing straight down on the hitch- pretty much. I'll be putting a second camera on top of my headache rack for checking loads going down the road.

Great idea about hooking it up to the backup lights. I've likely put mine on a toggle so I can switch to the upper camera.

Since I've got the overhead console, I've got the perfect space on the original dash. Definitely want to get a bigger-ish screen because I've got the space. Up to this point I've tried to stay away from anything that looks too new, but the usefulness hooking up trailers out weighs all that.
To have my cake and eat it too (never really got that saying LOL) I will have to get creative and make the screen look kinda Jules Vern-ish. I've thought about Osciliscope screens and such to go over the top, but those very well might muddle up the picture? One thing is for sure though, I'll scrape the "modern" off of it way or another! :D

The screen on mine is a blank black 3" x 4" rectangle when its not lit up. The big screens are about the size of the modern smart phone screens, or about 7" long.

Well, of course there's nothing in between. I was starting to notice that on my first search. Since my #1 use will be hooking up the trailers I'll likely end up going with the bigger one. Some sort of metal frame around it could tone that down some and fit the look of the truck.

If your only going to use it once in a while, you could probably hook it up with a quick connect electrical plug in for the screen, and then make a frame to hang it somewhere with an easy view for when you need it to hook up the trailer, then hide it in storage when its not needed. Could set the screen up on a small picture easel on the dash when you need it, plug the screen in and your ready, hide it out of the way when you don't need it. Could probably do the same thing with the camera. The screen and camera are both off until it gets turned on anyway, You could probably power the whole deal through a switch instead of powering it by the back up lights. You would just have to run wires.

An actual back up camera is sort of nice, once you get used to it being there you miss it when you drive something that doesn't have one.
