Any electronic guys that can give me an idea of a really good backup camera that would have a dash mounted flat screen for my '30?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I bought an el-cheapo back up camera for my coupe. It was simply to wire and has been functioning well for around 5 years now. The picture isn't as clear as it was when the camera was new, but for less then $50 back then, I figure when I need to replace it, it won't kill me. The car sits outside in the north west corner of IL year around, so the camera itself is exposed to all the weather. The cheap camera package only has one camera, so the rear view is from the center of the car. I can see with in about 6" of the bumper, but there is an adjustment time to get used to the picture. Since I couldn't see anything behind the car, the rear view didn't take long to be much better!
The one I have bolts to the license plate mounting screws, is powered by the back up lights with simple wiring for the view screen, and the view screen is about 4" diagnose. I have it mounted above the windshield on my 48 Plymouth coupe. Without that camera, I can't see anything behind the car, the widest point is at the back edge of the front doors.
Since I've got the overhead console, I've got the perfect space on the original dash. Definitely want to get a bigger-ish screen because I've got the space. Up to this point I've tried to stay away from anything that looks too new, but the usefulness hooking up trailers out weighs all that.Using a backup cam takes some getting used to. We have one in our RAV4 and being old I most times don't even use it. They are nice though when you remembervto look at it. I had one on my pickup years ago I put on. Biggest problem was the small screen that came with it and where to mount it. Get the biggest screen that will fit in your car. Jim
The screen on mine is a blank black 3" x 4" rectangle when its not lit up. The big screens are about the size of the modern smart phone screens, or about 7" long.
