    Lonestar Round Up - April 12th & 13th - Austin, Tx.

Hopefully it's better than last Saturday. I was in Austin to pick up an engine, and that storm was a rager!

Eliminate trans powered pto, use electric motor?

I installed a lot of DewEze and Muncie Power belt-driven clutch pumps when I was a truck equipment mechanic, and they worked great. Put it in neutral, flip the switch and get all the hydraulic pressure you need. I am sure there is a kit available for your engine. Routing the hoses can...

    Notice anything odd?

Looks like a typical shiny but poorly engineered, fishing for money kinda car. Usually assembled by people with limited hot rod knowledge. If he's listing it as a "Model A 5W" then he doesn't know much about early Ford models either. There was no "5W" Model A. It was just a Coupe - Window...

Oklahoma title for rat rod question.

Weird way for the state to run things, and in this case it put you in a predicament. Still not sure how they are issuing a registration without proof of ownership? [S Ohio requires a VIN inspection for vehicles brought in from out of state as well, but that paperwork must be completed before...

Oklahoma title for rat rod question.

Well it wasn't in your hand then was it? I'm not following the backwards process of the Oklahoma DMV here. What is the justification to inspect a complete vehicle AFTER it has tags?

    Studebaker-powered TROG build

Thanks guys! I'm not much of a photographer, but I'll do my best to keep everyone up on the event here. :D The good thing is we have a very talented video producer who is not only documenting our build progress, but following along with us to TROG. He will be doing all the editing of footage...

Oklahoma title for rat rod question.

Another case for having a clear title in hand BEFORE you even turn a wrench...

    Studebaker-powered TROG build

Thanks! Drivetrain and all parts contained in it have to be pre-1953, no OHV V8s. Pump gas, no alcohol or nitro. We are running the rail class with a 1950 Studebaker Champion 6, which is out for machine work as we speak. Overbore, cam, valve relief, 3 carbs on a log intake and whatever other...

    Studebaker-powered TROG build

Well we’ve been chugging along on this and it’s finally starting to look like something. The olive green is turning out to be a great color, and it is going to pop even more once the frame is black. Got the cycle tires mounted up, and some mock-up on the seat and fuel tank. It was pretty fun to...

Who can answer a CDL question?

Hypothetically speaking. Depends on how it's papered. If it's registered as a '55 Ford then I would drive the wheels off it and leave it at that. All other modifications are your business, not the government's. I would consider that information [redacted]. My $.02

Anyone running a 6 in dropped axle?

You don't even need the whole spindle, just the steering arms. I will check when I get to my shop later tonight and let you know.

Anyone running a 6 in dropped axle?

The truck arms might work, but if not the '49-54 passenger car units are usually around in junkyards. If you can't find any local, let me know. Pretty sure I have some on a stock set of spindles here somewhere.

Anyone running a 6 in dropped axle?

It's as easy as a steering arm swap and some rod ends. No need to reinvent the axle...

Anyone running a 6 in dropped axle?

Do whatever it takes to get the tie rod behind the axle. It will look MUCH better, and more importantly be way safer. Here's a possible solution - Locate some stock Chevy steering arms, drill them out for rod ends and run the tie rod on the bottom of the arms. I did this exact thing on a T...

Lower front shock mount on the hairpins?

Not without some sturdy reinforcement, including some type of web to tie the tubes together around the mounting point. They're just not strong enough otherwise...

    Studebaker-powered TROG build

It's still sponsored by KustomRama. I don't really get into the custom side of things like I do with hot rods, but it definitely pulls 'em in. As far as the cutoff date, you're right. Someone is always going to complain about anything someone else does, and oddly enough the loudest voices...

    Studebaker-powered TROG build

It actually did take off. It's called "Customs By The Sea", and it is a sight all it's own on Sunday. Pre-'52 cars built in pre-'52 style only. The Friday "Night of the Troglodytes" chopper show draws quite a crowd as well...
