    spark plug problems

If it's not smoking and the plugs tend to foul up after a good while, try running a step or two "hotter" heat range plug. Those anti-foulers are not the best thing for running good or economy.

    "Don't Know" Build start

I got to messing around trying to find a way to mount the outside mirrors. The original spot, on the front fenders, is no longer available. So, somehow, these old hinges jumped out at me and said,"use me." I did. I was going to just tack them in the right position but, normally, that would be...

Thanks Sam. I must've been spelling it wrong. Later.

    Light i.d.

I've been carrying this light around for many years and thought somebody may know what it came from. My Dad got it from somewhere years ago but, doesn't recall where. Thanks.

Flathead locked up while not running

This may sound crazy but, I had the "opportunity" to look at a locked up older Chevy pick up, maybe a '90 model, a while back. It seemed frozen like yours is doing. I tried every thing. Then, pulled the starter and got a big screwdriver on the ring gear to try to turn it that way. It would move...

    Chemical pneumonia from carpet cleaner

26, naphtha is the main ingredient of lighter fluid. It's used for a lot of other things too. Out in the plant, we have to wear slicker suits and supplied breathing air to be messing with the lines or valves that carry that. It didn't used to be like that. Just open the drain line and fill your...

    Chemical pneumonia from carpet cleaner

Hey guys, just a word of advice for anyone using carpet cleaner in an enclosed area. DON'T. My better half decided the carpet in the dining room needed some TLC and broke out the little hand held steam cleaner and got a couple cans of foamy 409 cleaner. Well, a total of three ER visits at this...

    Hangovers

My last hungover was 18yrs, 10m, and 14days ago. I don't miss them at all. Probably wouldn't survive a good drunk anyway.

    Inline filter problem

I guess I'll mount the screw-on filter before the pump. I'll get a filter with a drain next change. And leave the small inline up front after the regulator. I've seen inside of fuel hoses turn to crap because of this wonderful gas we've got now. Thanks.

    Tranny temperature

Ok. One way or the other, it looks like it needs to stay around 160-175. I can manage that either going thru the radiator after the cooler in the winter and before the cooler in the summer. I've got a two way, dual line valve, somewhere. It'll be trial and error. At least there's a place to...

    Tranny temperature

Thanks everybody. Next time I get it out, I'll try the cardboard thing. It's possible I'll have to run it thru the radiator to heat the fluid back up. That cardboard will probably make my engine coolant temp go up and that doesn't need to happen. Thanks.

    Tranny temperature

Thanks for the input. I was kind of thinking the same Don. I've never heard of letting a trans "warmup" before running it. I just didn't know. I don't want to screw up this transmission. It's my first to rebuild. And it actually works good. I may throw some cardboard over it and see what the...

    Tranny temperature

Just curious as to what is the best temperature to run this C-6.(stock converter) The gauge never gets off the 120 mark. I've got a big cooler mounted in front of the radiator so it's possible the fluid is staying that cool. I'm fairly sure I have the sensor mounted on the pressure side line...

    SBC valve adjustment question.

Thanks for all the input guys. The method I use is: put #1 @TDC on firing stroke. Mark bottom pulley in quarters. I mean, a mark about every 90 degrees. Do the valves on #1. With the plugs out, it's easy to turn the engine with a rachet/socket on alternator pulley nut. I turn engine 90 degrees...

    SBC valve adjustment question.

Thanks 26. It's an old motor with a few miles. I really can't do it running without a big hassle.
