    Rust Removal

Has anyone ever tried electrolysis for rust removal? I have cleaned small pieces using the process - works pretty well if you have sufficient sacrificial material and current supply.

    Rust Removal

Here is the advise I got from a professional auto painter using ppg products. It is VERY, VERY difficult to get all the rust off - even by blasting. Typically the professional blasters will use soda to blast the sheet metal and you can't get all the rust off no matter how hard you work at it...

    welding cart

Here's mine - made out of junk steel. The handles are actually the old stabilizer bar from the '49 that I cut in half. The cart rests on a coil spring that I also cut in half - wheels on the back. I would probably revise a little to accommodate a bigger bottle however....

    Floor Pans???

I replaced the floor first on my '49, but I used flat steel and fabricated my own as I went along. If you intend to buy the prefab pans, it may be better to replace the toe first. Not completely sure, you may want to check w/ the vendor you're buying the parts from (Chev's of the 40's or...

22, thanks again for taking the time to answer some of my basic questions. I am a newbie to this sort of car building, but your ride totally rules! I am amazed at the talent shown by the guys on this website. Thanks again and see you on the road !!

Welcome to the 'hood. I'm a newbie also - and sounds like for the same reasons!! Nice rides - you need to check out the other IH builds in the RRR family - good stuff. Have fun.

    Christmas for the misses

The spa thing is a good idea most of the time. My wife always has enjoyed that. And they can go at their own leisure or on one of those "stressful days". If you are going to sink about $300 or $400 on a camera or something exotic like that, I would throw the idea out there to take her on a...

    not for sale

Yeah, the Model A on my avatar has been sitting on our family's ranch for OVER 40 YEARS!!!!!! My uncle pulled it out of the barn it was in because it was falling down. Now it just sits out in the brush rotting to nothing. I finally got the motivation to try and haul it back to my house to...

    Bending steel/I overheated it

I know this is an old thread, but I had to share a stupidity moment with you regarding bending hot steel. Back when I was a teenager I was working on a drilling rig during my summer break. We had to do some fabrication work and I was using a O/A torch to heat some metal to bend. I was...

    welders..stick,mig,tig

I am a mud dauber when it comes to stick welding. I have dork control w/ that long stick. MIG works better for me because I seem to be able to better control the arc. Question for you expert welders, I am presuming that you are using a 220V MIG for the heavy frame work. If so, what size wire...

    Rustbucket49's 1928 Model "A" Build

Actually, I am warming up more to the idea of leaving the wood bed on it. Back during WWI people would convert their cars to pick-ups as part of the war effort. I may leave it like this as a "tribute" to that time. I want to get the wires blasted and redone - perhaps wrap w/ some WWW... What...

    Rustbucket49's 1928 Model "A" Build

I'm working on getting this heap. It has been on our place since it was bought in the 1920's. Converted to a "pick-up" back in the war. Used to be a touring sedan. I am thinking about replacing the wood bed w/ a decent bed, channeling a bit, lowering and trying to get the 4 banger going...

    Rustbucket49's 1949 Chevy Build

Here is my goal, but I will probably go darker on paint now. I love this car. I am doing the grill similar to this - requires some welding and fab work..... I also want to pancake the trunk like HOITINK's build - very sweet. I have learned that you don't take stuff to a hot rod shop if you...
