I owned 5 Corvairs at one time...........4 for parts to keep the 5th one alive. :D I actually liked it a lot. It was a 64 Spyder Convertible that I bought for $ 25.00. The previous owner had asthma and the fumes inside were so bad he couldn't drive it. The pushrod tubes always leaked oil onto the exhaust manifolds, so I rebuilt it and drove it for about 5 years. Ralph Nader didn't know what he was talking about.

As for those Smart Cars, every time I see one I think how bad they would make out in a wreck with an SUV or some big car.

Yeah, it'd probably look like that.

But really, any newer car would only be a foot more still sticking out. Gotta go back to the early 70's....

Had to look for a pic of this one. B & S Flyer:

Oh, I remember seeing one of those Flyers one time. The wheel in back lowered down with a lever and that started you moving forward.......no clutch. I guess that also meant it had no reverse. :D

My ol man bought my oldest sister a brand new 71 Pinto. It was gold , and she did manage to run it out of oil within 8 months and ruin the motor. Probably a good thing.

I've had 2 of the Pinto's and 2 of the Mustangs, liked all 4 of them!! Pinto may have been one of the best cars I ever owned. 30 mpg great driver. They had a bad rap for blowing up if rearended. I got rearended in mine did a lot of damage but no BOOM!!

the mustang got a bad rap as did that vette--it wasn't the cars' fault that the owners couldn't drive them...

my first bodyshop job was with a "rebuilder" who built mustangs -said when those mustangs came out with the quick-ratio steering, a posi rear and a lil horsepower they hit the salvage yards with record speed, piled up in some serious wads of twisted metal...

i've owned 2 of the 'stangs they were quick "back in the day"

BTW bonehead that pinto of yours prob doesn't have to worry with being rear-ended does it?!:D:cool:

I owned an 85 Mustang and I can see why they're on the list because of driver error only!

Had a friend that married a girl who had a brand new Pinto in 1971. He hated that car and did everything in his power to kll that little car. He never managed to succeed! That car took everything he gave to it, mach 1 take offs, banging gears constantly and just beating the tar out of it. He finally just gave up and started driving it like a somewhat normal person and then it broke!..CR:D
