WOW!
This guy is looking for an early Christmas gift.
But of course if it were mine I would have to get more than that for it.[S
Torchie.

Apparently he lived in Michigan where everyone thinks they have a goldmine stored away in the garage and they are going to hold on to it and sell it to retire.

Speaking of which DR.
Remember that estate sale you went to with the 30's Ford coupe for sale? It was last spring I believe.
The somewhat customized shoebox Ford that was there was on e-bay recently.
Some where around the 11 grand mark I believe. Wonder what he got it for?
Torchie.

He needs that much so he can buy a decent camera. :D It amazes me the awful pics some people post in for sale ads. I don't see how they ever sell anything.....

It's guys that like this that see the prices things sell for at the Lambrecht Chevrolet auction, Barrett-Jackson, etc., and get the idea their project is worth $12,000. Barrett-Jackson has done more harm than good to the hobby for that reason. It's a decent looking project, for about $1200 or maybe $2000, but it sure isn't worth what he's asking. That International, on the other hand, isn't far off for price in my opinion.

I don't think there is anyone to "blame" for the mindset. I've ran into it all my life. People see a nice original go for a high price and in their mind there is no separation of condition from the hulk they have sitting in the weeds, just because they are the same basic model.

CL and the rat rod thing is a cause for higher prices too. Every other rusted out slab of twisted metal is now a "great start for a rat rod project". So peeps think their scrap metal is worth the price of a solid Chevelle roller. In the last year, prices have doubled or tripled for the pre-70's stuff around here. Even doubled for the 80's stuff.

The other thing people don't really consider is that just because it's rare doesn't mean that someone else wants it. Those Plymouth trucks are rare and pretty cool. There was a pair of them for sale here about a year ago, one was pretty beat up but ran the other was in pretty good shape. His ad was similar speaking up the rarity. He was asking $6k for the two, they were on CL for a good 4 months. Not sure if they ever sold.

Lets face it guys.
None of this is new.
Back in the late 60's and early 70's I used to get ****ed off at Hemmings as it seemed that everybody that had a car saw one in the mag that was worth$$$$$.
The more things change. The more they remain the same. :D

I paid $1,700 for this '40 Plymouth, with title and plates 4-5 years ago.. I thought that was top dollar. Guy has a Dodge cab only for sale on CL here for two grand.

yep
my $500 buick is worth $20,000!

I don't see the Plymouths really bringing any more than the Dodges.
Bob, I think you did ok on that one, I would ask $2500 if it I was selling it (assuming the other side is as nice) and on a good day just the fenders and running boards would bring almost that much.
