Got the news back today on the heads.
The guides were in tolerance and the valve stems were worn out.
The bill for the repair will be $320 for the valves and $200 machine work.
A total of $520.

Ouch! I remember when you could build an engine for less than that, machine work included!

If it had been a SBC it would of only been $300 for stainless valves and all.
Onward and upward OI.
Thanks eman, I can't wait to see how it runs after getting the heads right.
[ddd I done a little port/bowl work under the valves before taking it to the machine shop too :D [P

I've learned that with my 455. I love the engine, but my RPU is going to have a SBC. Much cheaper and easier to get parts for.

I bet you'll have a great improvement in this engine!

With all new valves and a performance valve job, It almost has to [P

It will perform now that it has some OI love.
:D Gotta show them they are loved :D
It was doing it's darnedest to make me happy even hurt

 I got the heads back yesterday and man do they look awesome [dr
I put the engine back together and it runs great :D
I took pics of how the push rods lay down instead of stand up like a
SBC and the valves stand straight up.
This way the folks who haven't ever seen or may never see them, could have a look.

Yeah, you could have built more horsepower for half the money with a sbc. I'd still take the nailhead. If cheaper, faster, easier was applied to our whole cars, we would all be building 85 MonteCarlos
