That's when you break out the saying "hot rods are built for going fast...not stopping."

I just went through this thread from start to finish[cl
Amazing skill, persevrance, patience and vision. Sir you have my utmost respect on a truly beautiful build and thank you for share'n it with us.
On 8/22/10 you posted pics of a hulk with trees growing out of it that alot, if not most of us would have walked away shaking our heads say'n no way.
You have now posted pics 2/11 of a work of art a truly one of a kind car that is not far from being done, I truly am speachless.[dr

What I really want to know is where did you get the magic elves that must come out at night and I stress every night to help you do this in such a timely fashion[S

Great job and I/we can't wait for the finished product that I am sure will be rolling soon[dr

Thanks for the comps  don't let the pics with the fenders, hood, and doors on lead you to think it's not far from done -they were just loosely propped in position for inspiration -many miles and tons of fab to go yet :(

I found the magic elves in a box of Lucky Charms.......:D

Got the front sections of the floor tacked in today - this has got to be the smallest tranny hump I recall ever making for a rod floor. I'm going with a column shift and the E-brake will work on the original Caddy lever under the dash so there will be lots of room for them long kroozes...

Didn't do any work today, but the mailman came through with my ebay score, the left tail light that was missing. I'll lose the plate mount and fill the hole for the license light (that'll tick off the resto guys). A lucky find, these Caddy parts are real scarce. Since I'll likely never find another tail light lens and bezel for the right one, I bought a pair of Vintique 33-36 ford tail lights to adapt to the Caddy buckets, as you can see, they fit really easily.

Couldn't sleep so I just read through this build. Amazing work on this car. Every time I read through one of these I get a great education. So many ideas to steal. LOL

Ahh, spring - also known as home renovation time - which cuts into rod building time.....:(
Got a couple hours in on it today and got the front part of the floor welded up and ground off the boogers, cut in and framed the opening for the master cylinder that I forgot when I laid the floor...
Sizing up the components that will go in behind the rear seat - battery, air tank, valves and compressor. First, I'll have to make the gas tank and mount it then mount all this stuff on top of it on brackets off the frame then build the frame for the floor with removable access panel.

Decided to tackle the gas tank today. Cut out the pieces from 18ga mild steel, put some ribs in the main piece and on the ends. 2 baffles go in positioned in the middle of the ribs so they strengthen the tank as well since the straps to hold it up will sit between the ribs.

I tacked in a piece of 3/8 tube for the pickup and anther stub for the vent. The pickup is tacked to the bottom so it doesn't vibrate around. Sender hole is drilled and a piece of 2" pipe tacked in for a filler.

All welded up and boogers ground off :). I've yet to test it - what I do is dump a gallon of Varsol in it, plug the holes and pressurize it, then turn it around and chase down all the leaks.
One thing I have learned is the limitations of my welding ability and to expect that there will be leaks !!

Nice job! I have a large tub I put the tanks in. 6psi of air then hold it under water. I think I have done a good job if I have less than 10 leaks![cl
