I'd have to agree on the quality of those seats vs. what else you can snag at the junkyard. I threw some very similiar Rhonda Shivic seats in a 50 plymouth I had as a temporary measure and they were great.

I didn't bother to recover mine though and they definitely looked out of place. I'll be interested to see how they look when done and how you did it (upholstery kit or shop?)

Just went through your entire build thread so far and all I want to know is Why can`t I do that?!:(....... Oh ,yeah, you`ve been building cars since the seventies and I was born in the seventies. Sorry about that, had to have my little pout there. Anywayyy, You`ve got some skill there, sir! That`s a wicked looking car! Nice!

Yeah, some new threads will make 'em much nicer. These two pics are of Nissan Sentra seats I used in a couple roadsters.

Got the steering column mounted, had to shorten it 4 1/2". Made a simple mount to the dash and a brace to the firewall, also massaged the 76 Cad floor mount and bolted it to the floor, nice and sturdy. It comes out just behind the head and a u-joint should clear the rear exhaust port OK.

I check this build thread all the time. I just have to say that this is the coolest car ever. Thanks for the entertainment and education.

Did some easy little things today. Gave the original E-brake handle and mechanism a bath in WD-40 and it works A-1. Things were made so well then, made from castings, not tinny crap. Mounted it under the dash and also mounted the original gas pedal, adapted a 55 Chev PU brake pedal to the arm, also made the shifter linkage from misc parts that were laying aroud.

Started work on the headers, a set I picked up at a swap meet for a BB Chev - cut off the flanges, now I need to tweak the pipes to fit the Caddy flanges. Passenger side is not too bad, just two pipes to move but the drivers side will need a total re-do to go around the steering shaft(s).

Finished up the passenger side header, started on the drivers side. Since I'm waiting on the steering shaft and joints, I made a mock-up shaft so I could get the header built. Hopefully I won't need any extra pipe, just slicing and dicing what I have into the right shapes.

Finished off the drivers side header, lots of room for the steering. I popped the upper A arms off and started the air bag install. Welded a 1/4" plate in the lower arms for the bottom mount and cut out the frame rails for the 'cans' to be welded in. I didn't have any pipe the right size so I made them from 1/8" plate. The Air Lift Dominator bags don't balloon out when inflated so I won't have to open up the spring pockets in the frame.

Upper air spring mounts installed - "Huston, we have lift off!!" After trial mounting the bags I found that they were too close to the sides of the lower A arms so I slit the sides and laid them back. I thought there would be plenty of room around the top of the bags in the frame pockets but I find that some trimming will be needed after all :( - tomorrows project......It's pretty tight against the frame at full lock but with some creative mounting, shocks will fit.

I finished trimming the frame pockets, lots of room around the bags now. Looked thru the Monroe online shock fitment chart and picked the shortest ones I could find, went with the stud top mount, it gives more room around the shock and allows it to move around more as the suspension moves. Plenty room to clear the tires at full lock.

Got the Borgeson u-joints, a 3/4" heim joint and a section of 3/4 DD shaft and put the steering together. The poly engine mounts hold the engine very steady so even though there is only 1/2" clearance past the header pipes, they will never come in contact.

Scooped a bunch of parts today at Pick n Pull. :) A Mazda MPV rear seat, a front sway bar, tranny cooler, a bunch of old GM power window switches and a Mustang II rack and pump. I only need the pump but got the rack too for some future project - for $27.00, why not ! I'll use one of the 4 switch blocks for the air bag solonoids. The Mazda seat reclines as well as folds forward so stuff can be put behind it. Knocked the junk off it and did a trial fit - looks like it belongs there :D.

lookin good as always ZZ [cl

Thanks guys for looking and bearing with me, it seems to be going so slowly, every little thing takes more time than expected, like today - took all afternoon to fit the 2001 Impala sway bar up front. Had to 'massage' the frame rails to allow it to clear everything during suspension movement and while turning. Now at last the front end is completed.......
