Hey Forbigpicture....I think you are right on that front clip...I wish I had some history on this car but I have none...

Tons of chin scratching going on at the Cob Job Garage...so I live on a state road which means almost 5000 cars a day go past my house....lots of room for error from the motoring public....I have gone thru at least 3 mailboxes to date...I wanted to do something with them...

IMG-20221113-152058867.jpg

I am trying to keep this looking like an old heap...I have seen all kinds of ways to fill areas...I am scratching away...head spinning in circles most of the time too...

IMG-20221113-162726914.jpg

Look mom...we have two messed up mailboxes turned into a firewall for this old heap...now this car would not be a real old race car with out a street sign making up some part of it....

IMG-20221118-165351374.jpg

I have been in this shop since 2001 and this sign was sitting up against the wall this whole time...well is has a home now....

Next on the docket is a place to put gasoline...Ebay to the rescue...I wanted to do an old boat tank but the 40 Ford stock car I had...it had an old beer keg...I know this is not a keg but it came with mounting straps and some hardware bits too...
IMG-20221123-182818360.jpg

Where would I mount the new fuel tank???...what will I use to mount it too???

IMG-20221125-171757811.jpg

Found enough scraps to keep that old jalopy vibe going on...

IMG-20221121-182208595.jpg

IMG-20221116-180542762.jpg

Cobbled it up good with and piece of bed frame and piece of 1/4" flat stock from a 1948 Chevy 1 ton truck I had a couple years ago...

Thanksgiving morning in the cob job garage....

IMG-20221124-080830668.jpg

A couple more bites....

Another weekend in the books

IMG-20221130-173526976.jpg

I had these hefty angle iron scraps from the 40 Ford coupe I partially saved a couple ears back...

Lets make a battery box kids....old school like it was done back in the day...

IMG-20221202-143634363.jpg

cut cut cut...tac tac tac....grind grind grind...

IMG-20221202-154358919.jpg

oh shoot...we are plumbing stuff now too...

IMG-20221204-141843598.jpg

I bought the clutch cylinder and this line from the fine folks at Speedway several months back...well this weekend I pulled the line out and it came with several different fittings to make it work...lots and lots of chin scratching again...but I think I got it right...

my shop was getting really gritty so I got it down on all fours and pushed the heap outside

IMG-20221202-161404438.jpg

Still waiting for some steel wheels from the Wheel Vintiques...been many months since I ordered them and still no wheels at my place...

So I took a break and went to Kansas and then Erie PA to visit my two kids...well I got back probably a month ago...got right back to to work on the ole heap...

IMG-20230404-163057723.jpg

So I ordered the parts in this pic from Wheels Vintiques June of 2022...they showed up in April of 2023...

IMG-20230415-173706705.jpg

Had my tire changer mount these tires I got from the fine folks at the Tireeasy.com website...

So I cobbled up this hood probably 6 months ago...never liked the way it look on this jalopy...more chin scratching...hey lets make old school circa 1965 era front fenders for this heap...

IMG-20230417-111515872.jpg

what a battle this was....still not sure what I am doing here...I studied a bunch of mid 1960 era modifieds and sportsman cars from my area and....well I am still not sure what I am doing here...

IMG-20230417-152034221.jpg

during the chin scratching time here...

IMG-20230417-174017928.jpg

Oh yeah...I cobbled up a rusty front bumper too...

IMG-20230417-111532917.jpg

I kinda like it....

My ADD is kicking my butt...I am really bored with this build already...been 13 months with this project...way too long for me...

wish me luck

Don’t give up please! We need the entertainment [cl
It’s coming along nicely [;
I’ve been on the Bug Bucket four years

I was fiddling around with the ole heap and I looked at my very cobby looking hood hold down bracket and it made me smile...

IMG-20230417-111553109.jpg

I found an old metric bolt...cut it to fit...ground it down a little bit...drilled a hole thru it...welded it a little too...found a piece of old shock absorber rubber mount...found an old hood pin from back in the day...

No more ratchet strap for me...

The stuff you think up with those 3am thoughts...

Updates from the Cob Job garage...I saw this little gem on a street legal stock face book page...

IMG-20230419-160246865.jpg

Another view...

IMG-20230424-150401270.jpg

I used these aftermarket directional assemblies before...this one seems like it was pretty well built too...wish is came in rust color...chrome is not my thing at all...

IMG-20230503-173401469.jpg

Found these brackets online from a company in the mid-west I think...first thing on the docket...make it look old and crusty...yea ole grinding wheel and some white vinegar...

IMG-20230503-173417965.jpg

still not sure what I want to do with this thing...the catch basin is a pretty humble piece for sure...

IMG-20230503-163437382.jpg

But as always....someone will scratch his chin some more and the light will come one again and...someone will...

IMG-20230424-150514349.jpg

So I did a thing

You ever do something and then think and rethink the reason you did that thing and then finally go ahead do the right thing after you thought you were doing the right thing the first time...
Well I tried last year to purchase a pair of Posie's Super Slider springs for the rear end of this ole jalopy...they couldn't get them last year and they told me they would email me when they became available...we that was like 11-12 months ago now and I get and email from them a month back about them having the springs back in stock...well a many many months ago I bought a 4 link kit from the folks at Johnny Outlaw...I thought the stuff was made in the USA...it was not...

20220622-190219.jpg

So I mounted everything up...my very first 4 link suspension every...took me many many nights and days too to get it set up and welded in place...

IMG-20230510-082052192.jpg

So I went out and started looking at my handy dandy cobbing that I did to get it all mounted...well come to find out it was not centered in the chassis and probably wasn't square either...

IMG-20230510-111613245.jpg

So I did a thing...

IMG-20230510-160534116.jpg

All that Chinese stuff is out in the floor...and I ordered the Posie stuff...

Made in the USA springs for this ole heap...

Besides...isnt this ole heap supposed to be an old stock car from back in the day???...

Old stock cars had leaf springs in them...

Ron-Narducci44-19621.jpg

More pics once we get the new setup in and bolted tight

I had used the ole Posie springs before so I kinda knew their stuff was top notch...so I bellied up to the cash bar...

IMG-20230513-154735456.jpg

So this thing is getting real again...

IMG-20230515-112140615.jpg

I wasn't sure what was going to happen here...racing thoughts at 3am...

tadaaaa....

IMG-20230515-112133424.jpg

I had used this 1x2 steel tube to fabricate motor mounts about 6 months ago...well they didn't pan out...so I got out the ole angle grinder and made some mounts...

IMG-20230517-102101729.jpg

So the ole Judy girl is sporting some new underpinnings...almost looks like and old stock car from back in the day...

My goal is a 1965 era stock car that could have been racing when I first saw my first race in the summer of 1965...I know it wont be perfect but...from 100 feet I think the ole girl will look ok...

IMG-20230517-100853736.jpg

We now also have 2 front fenders mounted with out the use of any sort of vice grip or clamp...

So all the heavy lifting is over but we are still fiddling with a lot of stupid little stuff...not sure what you call this part but it is under the cowl vent...
IMG-20230703-161750402.jpg

Cowl vent drip pan maybe??...I was not sure if I wanted to seal up the cowl vent or not....So I patched it as best I could...

IMG-20230703-161809741.jpg

Then I had this nagging thought I thought the rear deck lid was a little wonky...then I did some measuring and laying down of some painters tape...

IMG-20230610-175114170.jpg

Nothing on this ole heap is square or plumb or anything even close to where it should be...so I was cutting and chopping and all that fun stuff...

IMG-20230711-165946586.jpg

The cob job garage is at it peak right now boys and girls...

IMG-20230711-165932990.jpg

I think this coupe was clown car or something...it has yellow doors...a brown right side and a black left side...

IMG-20230709-182337770.jpg

IMG-20230704-125600008.jpg

I love to see into a cars past...the history is half the fun for sure...

So I kept looking at the front fenders I cobbled together...they had a really sharp edge on them...
I save old brake...not sure why but I do...

IMG-20230718-160939583.jpg

Both sides I did...tac tac tac...grind grind grind...repeat...

IMG-20230719-160507092.jpg

decided I needed some curves on the ole girl...why not do the bottom of the fenders too...

IMG-20230718-161009467.jpg

I am getting the wiring done too...I dont have a clue what I am doing but I keep chugging along on it...

IMG-20230711-122302261.jpg

Not sure how it is going to work out but I keep going out to the garage almost every day...

I also cobbled up a trunk lid latching system...

IMG-20230718-123634509.jpg

My goal is to get it to run and move before the end of the year...gotta get it inspected and some sort of paperwork on it too from the DMV...

Not looking forward to driving it at all...but I can check it off my list of junk I have tried to save...

I have learned that when MIG welding while laying on your back...if there is a newly run brake line you will have the welder pop and bang...whatya got???
IMG-20230807-155140121.jpg

Damn damn damn...thank GOD for tubing cutters...

IMG-20230807-155200319.jpg

I have been fighting with fittings that don't fit...

IMG-20230730-171926895.jpg

It took two (2) separate orders from Speedway Motors before we got the right ones...

IMG-20230731-073718609.jpg

So the one on the left I thought would fit like the brake line on the left...

They would tighten to a point and then spin...I finally figured it out but what pain in the backside...

My chin scratching because it is time to mount some sort of safety belt...I had these from the last Dodge Neon I had raced...kinda old but fine for the street...

IMG-20230731-184201458.jpg

I scammed on this one...I bought a seat belt mount kit from Speedway Motors...so thankful they are around....

IMG-20230803-173504430.jpg

This is the top mount...

IMG-20230807-161204887.jpg

All mounted up...I even figured a way to cobble up a crotch belt mount too...even mounted it to the frame rails...

IMG-20230803-173529617.jpg

Nothing to say here but I like this pic...

IMG-20230807-162329310.jpg

Love that ancient patch panel here...brazed in place...

still cobbing away here....
