hey guys, so i have been cleaning up this engine and tranny gettin it ready to paint then drop into the doghouse project, a 1940 dodge truck. couple questions. its a six volt engine, is it also a positive ground? and if it is, what would happen if i hooked it up negative ground? would the started spin backwards? and the fluid drive tranny, how the heck do i hook linkages up to it to shift?

I believe it is positive ground. You can switch it but you will have to rewire the gauges, coil, starter to get the negative to ground to the body, switch the battery cables. I did it on my model A, not that hard really. Of course light bulbs don't care about polarity, so don't have to mess with those

so all i gotta do then is rewire the coil and hook the starter up like normal, positive to the solenoid, and i should be ok. thanks man.

hey skullworks, i also have a 39 dodge pickup i still have the original engine in mine i wanted to convert mine over to 12v also i was watching your videos but do you have any pictures of the drivers side of your engine so i can see how to hook mine up

hey man. all i did to get this engine running was change the coil to a twelve volt coil and that was about it. i had to clean the starter up a bit. i have a small wiring diagram i made for a freind of mine who asked the same question. its not perfect, but its how i wired it up to get it fired up.
