Your pie cuts will need to come a long way forward, but it's a better idea. Make the slice, let it overlap temporarily. Then you can use screws to get it mocked up. Then do you final cut through both layers. Puts the right gap in for a butt weld.

If you make a plywood buck of the hood in cross section before you cut it, you can use it to maintain shape as you reform the hood. It will make reshaping easier. You could make a sheet metal one like I did for my roof. It didn't take me that long, but I have an old shear that made it easier.

Shouldn't need to make a form gold as the the rear section of the F hood remains stock and will act like a form to contour the hood to. Where the cut is layed out is a very flat surface and I will be leaving it on the car when I do this.

The plan is to secure the the 41 hood to the F hood underlay between the cut line and the center seem. And yes I will be using "poor mans" cleco's. (Sheet metal Screws)
As far as the length of the cut goes, well that remains to be seen. The tape in the pic goes about 3/4 the length of the hood. Most likely it will be the entire length of the hood. And on both sides of the hood.[[[[[[[

Once cut I will overlap as suggested and then more screws and perhaps a few tack welds.
I want to be able to open and shut the hood and make sure it's all secure before I remove it to redo the inner bracing.
All final cutting and welding on the hood will be done at the time of final fitting of the front clip.

Todays progress or lack there of...

Went out to the shop today with great intentions......
All I got done was a re-adjustment of the drivers side fender. I also installed the hood latch plate to help keep the front clip from flexing as much.
The spirit was willing. But the back was weak.

All is all Brother. Just too darned cold to be out in the shop right now. High temp was around 5 degrees today. Not looking much better for tomorrow.

I feel you on the freezing temps... it went from 50 to -18 in 24 hours and it's just plain cold now....

So now it's pucker time...

Despite the frigid temps I went out into the shop and started the pie cuts on the 41 hood.
1st pics shows the mark for the cut
2nd pic is the "no turning back now" shot.
3rd pic shows how far towards the nose I went. Not quite all the way but close!
4th pic gives a better idea of the length of the cut.
5th pic shows the over lap at the cut as well as where I will need to make a second relief cut to bring the sharper curve of the 41 hood up against the shallower curve of the F hood.
6th pic shows a current profile shot.
Things are lining up well. Hopefully I will finish cutting the PS tomorrow and get started on the DR side. I need to get more kerosene as the heater ran out about midway thru tonights efforts. It was darned cold out there....

The only problem working in a garage that has a indoor temp of 20 degrees is that my saftey shield fogs up and my air tools frost up and freeze.
Going to take back some bottles and get some more kerosene.[cl

I hear you on the iced up air tools. I bought a air dryer, but the compressor will need to have a cooling rad installed between the comp and the tank.

Since this is going to be the warmest day for a week..

...out to the garage we go.
1st pic shows the remaining gap after the first relief cut.
2nd pic shows the next relief cut. Gap gone!
3rd pic shows the start of the DS. "2nd verse.Same as the first."
4th pic shows a head on shot with both sides done. Fit is very good IMHO
5th pic. Now for the real test. What do you know. It works!
6th pic shows the area on the F hood that has to be trimmed off. I won't do that until I final fit the front fenders. As you can see the hood is held together with sheet metal screws. I wont do the welding on the hood until the final fitment of the front clip as well.
Next step is a mock up of the running boards and then lots of staring to make sure it all looks right.
Then the plan is to finish the work on the cab and doors.
