It's my own brain damage. I did barrow the concept of sort from the way chops are done on the old 50's cars with the big wrap around back windows. Only I reversed it of sorts. This works for up to 3" before thing stop lining up, after that you will be doing alot of cutting to line things back up.

Pilar fill inns

Pass side back of cab done, both inside pilars done. Will finish up driver side back of cab tomarrow, clean up some grinding. Mark up the cab for the floor to come out. Was thinking 6" but after measuring the front fender, 4" is what is need to line up the front and back of the fenders.

A FYI for removing drip edge

I almost had a big oops moment removing the drip edge. Before i cut anything off I checked the underside to make sure the dip edges had the same reveal on both sides. What I didn't see till I statred cutting is the roof part (middle piece) was not lined up on one side.

The first side (the one that both line up) I cut off and grinded every thing back flush with the cab. I did this about 8" at a time. the reveal wooked out great. The other side is where I had problems. After cutting I noticed I needed to grind back almost twice the amount as the other side. After measuring the reveal left I found out the lower part that returns into the door was good but the roof part was in to far. Then I looked at the peice I cut of and saw that the roof and door return were not lined up to start with. Think it migth be a little to late to complain to Ford about this.

The fix, I had to cut the whole drip edge off front to back. Then push the door return back and clamp it. this let the roof part overhang the 3/16" the was off from the start. Tac welded it evey 8" then went to welding and grinding. came out with the same reveal as the other side.

It's interesting to me to see just how far out of whack all the older cars and trucks were built. Then again, back then they didn't care about perfection. Just as long as the damn thing works!
Sadly, all the older stuff that has a lack of perfection, last MUCH longer!

Guarantee you won't find a 2012 ford still driving around 50 years from now.

Having done 3 of theses Ford (all of then came from the Kansas plant) Is how different one side of the cab is from the other side. Makes me believe in the Friday beer thirty day .

Had 4 hours to kill today

So I grabbed a door and went to cut'n. Went with a better route on this chop on the doors (the 51 looked cool but was a pain). Still can use factory side glass, wingwind will have to be cut but it will be the only glass. clamped some of the factory peices on to show how far things moved.

Scored a door today. I'm giving my 70 two more weeks up for sale, If it won't sale it may become a doner for this. Then I could finish the truck on about a$500 budget.
