1959 Pontiac Star Chief

A friend of mine that i worked with had one in 1966. We used to run whiskey from Louisville to Sandy Hook every weekend. We had to beef up the rear suspension to keep it from looking like a tail dragger! This was before i was a policeman.

Started to wonder about thos KY POPO's...LOL

Soon after getting the Star Chief I found a 1999 Firebird well worth the money. It had a LS1 and 4 speed auto. We bought it and drove it home to be a parts donor for the 59’. Part of the low price agreement was that we return the wheels and tires back to the previous owner the next day.
So we had the drive home and a couple quick runs out in the country to see how everything worked. That was the last road time for that Firebird.

That will definitely be a great powerplant for the 59!

You can probably sell off all the body parts and such you are not using as well!

Yeah Sarge, I was only 18 then and i was 21 when i joined the dept. Course now that i'm retired i guess i could go back to my old ways......if i could find a 59 Pontiac.

This will be a nice build and a great cruiser. Really cant beat an LS1 4L60E for a reliable power plant. [P

Sorry about that, but if it makes you feel any better, that one had a VERY hard life. There wasn’t a straight body panel on it, it had been wreck all around.

Cool project and great choice on the drivetrain! I dont know if they are the same but I've got a nice pair of 59 Catalina tail lights I'd let go cheap. PM me if you're interested.

Removed the frame, which came out easier than I thought, we just mounted some casters to it and rolled it out from under the body.

I also made a support fixture for holding the body so we can work on it safely. Really wanted to do a rotisserie, but I can always add to what I have and maybe end up with one.

I used to have a 12x20 foot carriage house that they called a garage...could barely close the door..made a bump stop at the front to make sure it was all the way in..... it fit...barely...

Lol! We did the same thing for my Grandma when she was still around. Only thing she would drive was cadillacs and her 68 coupe deville would barely fit in the garage. She would, Bless her 4'10" soul, just bump the 12x12 sill beam at the back of the garage to know she was all the way in. Thats is until my grandpa, Dad and I found she was pushing it out from under the garage! Pushed it back in, sunk some concrete filled 8" pipes on the outside and put a rubber bump stop on the inside made of a tire tread![cl
