Built this one a few years ago. Got it for free out of a friend of a friends garage. It hadn't run in 9 years, and still had a full tank of the best smelling gas I've ever had the pleasure of smelling
I got it running the first night, hard tailed it, raked it and rode it with a silver frame for a few months till the trans locked up solid on me during a ride through denver on I25.
Tore it all down, rebuilt it, bought a powder coat machine and went NUTS with powder coat!
Ended up selling it to fund the rat rod [cl
I impressed myself for my first build ever. I built the dang thing with mostly wood carpenters tools
Now I have some real tools [cl

Don't have many pictures of this one, but another 1980 gs1000. This one I'm building for my buddy.
He's slow on funds so it's an off and on project.
It'll be a fun little bobber once it's done :)

Those were rough on trannys

I think the trans faliure was more my fault then anything. I never took the motor apart to check seals and I lost one betepween the trans end engine. It lost all it's gear oil into the case and let all the bearings run hot.

But even after the rebuild, it took some serious effort to find neutral and it shifted hard though the rest.
Still a blast of a bike!
