red oxide primer

im trying to teach myself how to spray paint a car


my dad gave me two paint guns, a 1.4 I think and a 1.8 tip, they were brand new sitting in a box in his project 50 chevy truck
the kit came with two other smaller guns and hes been using those


I using the 1.8mm tip gun
my garage temp was 73 deg

im still messing with the setting on the gun to see how it sprays and what I like

but I have a 60 gallon air compressor
and a reg and filter on the end of the gun

I had the garage door covered in plastic but I took it down because I needed to vent the garage because it was making the house smell like the primer


I ran the primer in a few spots, so I have to wait for that to dry and sand it back down

yeha plans changed on that

I talked to a buddy of mine and he has some friends that run a body shop,

so im going to let them finish up the body work and paint for me

block sanding and everything

primer and paint and be done with that

the guy told me he also has another friend that does interior work

so im looking at having that guy redo the honda del slow seats in some type of black

we got snow on the ground here a few weeks ago, and its been super cold

so by the time it gets to the temp I would need it to be in order to paint at home,
im just going to send it to a shop and let them get it done


I want to get back on the 37 again, im pumped up to build the 37


my goal is to have the 37 running this summer, not driveable but just running

I found a lq4/4l80e in san diego with 57k miles on it for 2500

im going out next weekend to look at that motor/trans.....my wife dont know yet, she wont be happy that im buying another v8, but I can save my 5.3 for another project down the road

my 5.3 has been sitting for 10 years covered up, so I would have to change out a bunch of seals and whatnot to run it

plus I plan to sell my old daily driver, and that will cover the cost of the new engine combo

the reason for another motor is mostly because I want to go with a 4l80e automatic, because I dont like the 4l60e's and I want to cam up the motor I use

my brother gave me a ford 9 inch housing, that should go nice with that drivetrain combo

and my hips will be more happy with a automatic
plus I have a ford wc t5 on my 5.3 and I know that trans wont last long
 
body shop got the roof of the mini blocked out today

and started to work on the left rear flare

I went to drop off some thinner to them

and I have to go back tomorrow to drop off another gallon of primer,
it came in fedex late afternoon to my house
 
I picked up the 4l80e trans in San Diego
Someone got the lq4 before me sonits all good on that


I plan to run the 5.3 /4l80e/ford 9 inch


My brother gave me a ford 9 inch housing that’s been cut down to 50.5 inches
And it’s set up for big ford bearings
I plan to run 4.11’s or 4.30 gears in this mug

So I ordered a flexplate and crank bolts and tc bolts and a new front pump seal and a new trans oil pan gasket and trans filter

I haven’t even got the trans home to tucson yet and I’m ordering parts for it

update on the mini


they said it will be all covered in 2k primer this afternoon

they have blocked out the body already

and they are going to come in early tomorrow morning to hit it hard

my 111 red oxy primer and paint will go on it and the car will be ready for me to take it home by late tomorrow afternoon


im going to put all the glass in myself
and the door seals and boot seal

and new tail lights and headlights, new seats, and new door cards that I haven't made yet but have the sheet metal for

lots of parts to go into the mini here in the next few weeks
 


built some boxes for some cv strokers I had laying around



new mk2 tail lights straight from England





painted the chrome housing satin black, no chrome on this car
 



installed the led headlights, and moved the heater core from inside the shell to the engine bay, dont need heat, its already super hot here

and I probably wont be driving the car much in the winter time anyways
