thanks for the thought Forbigpicture..

telling you for sure ,, to be woken just after midnight, to the sound of 4 or 5 locomotives (dam big ones at that !) apparently passing just outside my bedroom window while thundering down the roughest virtually impassable dirt track which is filled with corrugations about 3 feet deep not forgetting the bass drum section from the worlds best orchestras..comes pretty close.. just when I thought oh its slowing up ,, it suddenly got worse..

word was two spate earthquakes almost at the same time --rather extraordinary..-- it lifted the sea floor about 6 feet , and shifted one area around 6 feet north as well.. luckily for us we were some distance away !!!!
( the coupe wasn't damaged !! )

heres a couple of pictures a bit closer to the main event

Glad to hear you're ok Crate! Some serious movement going on there. The one that really hits home is that RR track shifted like it is....

Wow! Glad you guys are ok! My step moms family is from new Zealand. They are on the north island, but Ill have to let her know bout this. Thanks for sharing

thanks for your thoughts guys..!!

generally we just felt the motion , and to be honest (as I heard a while back)

the color of adrenaline is ... brown not literal in my case....

however 2 souls lost lives . while that was incredibly minimal those folk had families and will be missed... still sad

livelihoods lost etc .. today ive had a couple of phone calls from customers down that way , they are quite stoic, one guy right in the thick of it saying..
"well, now its just another earthquake, we just keep going as long as nothing falls of the roof were used to them now"
(talking of aftershocks)

heres a vid of the main event taken our capital.

When you can't trust the earth to remain under your feet, that's quite unsettling. Sure glad you are okay.
