To fasten the insert to the roof frame I thought about riv-nuts, but I don't have the tool, and I could not have anything above the square tubing as the steel is going to be welded to the top. I came up with this idea. I purchased a bunch of 1/4" all-thread nuts to use as the insert. I then drilled 1/4 inch holes through the tubing, spacer and roof frame on the car. Then I removed the 3/4 tubing and drilled 1/2"holes on the top side of the tubing.

I cleaned the holes up and made sure they lined up then dropped an all-thread nut in, you want to cut the nuts so they are a little recessed in the tubing to alow for weld.

Next step bolt them through the lower 1/4"holes and weld them in to the tubing on the top side, then grind the top smooth.

The finished fastener, is very strong as it is just like having a nut on the inside of the tubing, the weld just holds it in place.

This morning I took the frame out and finished welding it up. Then I took the section of roof I cut out of the G5 and separated the roof skin from the structure to repair the creases and dents from the roll over damage, still have some massaging to do on that, but it looks like the shape and curvature is going to work out with the roof line on the dodge.
