41 Ford Coupe. AKA Thread Jacker

Well folks, I took the 130 mile round trip to look at the car I managed to hijack the good Doctors 37 Cheby Coupe thread with. My apologies for that one, good Sir.

I was really excited about it, the price was good and further negotiable. The phone pics looked like perfect RR material as is. Just add a frame and power. Maybe some glass, lights, and little stuff like that. I really think it is a car worth saving, but it is a bigger project than I an equipped to handle. I told the seller I would chat with my body guy, and tell a few thousand potentially interest people about it. So, here it is. The CL post has expired, but you can contact Dan at 360-957-8938. So, there it is. It is a fire victim. Interestingly, none of the body panels are warped from the fire, but all of them are effected. Pot metal parts, gauges, and wiring are all melted. Very little body damage as far as dents and stuff. The right side rocker is badly rusted out from the cowl to the rear fender well. The right side running board is hanging on by almost nothing. Rear fenders are not there, and the inner panels have been cut up a little bit on both sides. The trunk floor is pretty much rusted out. Trunk hinges are in good working order. Trunk is straight other than three bullet holes about dead center. I suspect that the cab floor is challenged also, but I couldn't see much of it. Both original doors are in the car, along with an extra hood, and some odds and ends small parts. Front fenders and inner panels are pretty nice considering. Grille center piece is busted up, but in tact. Side grilles are rust coated, but all there.

If I was 20 years younger, I might go for it. I'm not. I will wait for a project less challenging I think.

PS: I have a pair of rear fenders in my junk pile. So if you come to get this, stop by my place and buy my fenders.

Its very close to you. If you get it, I'll make you a great deal on a 59 Chevy dash for your custom job.

I am headed out to look at another coupe this week. This is all I'm going to say for now. Price is good, and it seems to be in better shape.

I'll admit that it wasn't easy. That's why I posted this. I hope someone will rescue it. I don't have the space to save 'em all. Wish I did.

Depending on how hot it got, the metal might be toast. If it got hot enough to lose it's temper you'd never get it straight. Fire does strange things to metal. I had a VW bug that had a engine fire that led to the interior burning. In less than a month, the metal had rusted away. The floor pan though I was able to save by sandblasting and covering with POR 15. The upper body from the windows up just vanished in thin air, from the windows down, it didn't even burn the paint off. When I loaded the body to take to the scrappers, it collapsed in on itself.

We have all seen worse cases then this brought back to life Skip, but you are smart in understanding where you want to be when you start a new project.
The biggest issue for the 41's is the lack of items that are available for them
If you wanted just the body shell for a Rat then it is no problem. But things like fenders. Hood and grill are one year items only. And nobody makes a stock floor for it. Again not an issue if you are going for a Rat rod build. But more work none the less.
I looked for a year for the grill for my truck until I found one that was affordable. And I got lucky as it was in much better shape then some I had seen for double the price.
And my rust free front fenders came all the way from Wyoming via Kentucky to Northern Mich.(Talk about getting around. LOL)
Bama is very correct in regards to fire damaged metal as well. I passed on a really solid 51 Chevy Hardtop for just that reason. The metal looked fine as far as warping ,but had the same all over rust as this 41 and it had never sat outside.
