hi there I have a 42 flat head fresh rebuild but all stock, I would like to start dressing it up. I found a cool offy intake with tri carb set up but don't know what year its from looks to me like early fifties?? my Q is will this work on my 42? the bolt pattern looks the same but how can I be sure

Well the Offy shouldn't be for anything later than a 53 since that was the last of them as far as American autos go. Yes, the intake should fit your 42 flattie with some mods. Got a photo of the intake? The manifold should be for either a 38-48, or 49-53.

If you want to play with flatheads you best start hitting the books, because there are TONS of differences between years, models and applications. Most 24-stud flatties do have the same intake bolt pattern, but the water inlets and generator mount can cause issues depending on location.

More importantly, If you have a plain stock rebuild then 3 carbs is going to drown it. Stick with a dual carb. It will be much more reliable and cost effective in purchase price, maintenance and headache powders!

42 flatty

thanks for the help,
I have been reading up , trying to learn as much as I can I do have a few flatty how to's but there is soo much left to interpretation, so its always good to get advise from guys who actually have them and are not trying to sell you parts! I was already thinking the tri would be too much for a stock engine but just seeing what was out there it seemed to be a really good deal!

The intake is the deal, and then you gotta start buying carburetors, kits and linkage!
Dual carb intakes are just as plentiful. Keep an eye out and you will come across one.

Intake manifolds will interchange on 21 stud to all 24 stud engines. Bolt pattern is the same. However, there are few differences like the oil fill tube. That's a 49-53 manifold with oil fill tube and road draft tube provisions.

thanks I'll keep looking but not too many of them in Canada
he has the carbs and linkage as well for $400 cdn, but I'm gonna look for a 2x2 what about after market aluminum heads? I know I won't see much performance if any but just love the look of the multi carb aluminum head look!
