'42 plymouth

I have a friend that has a claimed to be '42 special deluxe for sale (1500.00) that still has the beauty rings and hub caps and no rust through(minimal surface) and motors spins. what are the identifing marks say its a '42 and not a '46 since the body didnt change that I should look for? some say knuckle grips on the steering wheel and others say a "spoiler" under the front bumper which it does not have. I figuered I would ask the experts, Any help?[S

The easiest way is to look at the grill. On the 42 all the horizontal "bars" are the same thickness and the parking lights are above the grill. On the 46 thru fisrt series 49, the horizontal "bars" alternate thick / thin and the parking lights are located directly below the headlights.
