I bought this truck from C1ph3r and trailered it all the way home from NC to the panhandle of Florida. Pushed it in the back yard and started working on it. Plans are to use ideas from WW2 bombers. I'm going to try and use the frame that I have and just "C" notch it or Z the frame. I will have to post the parts for sale that are coming off this truck. Hood and fenders will be for sale.

Welcome aboard.

Looks like a nice start. Love the openness of the grill area. U got a grill or buildin one for it? RR

I thinking about just building one to save on money. I want to run open wheels on the truck and a suicide front end. Not dead set on the back. I found out after removing the bed that the frame is rusted through in some spots so building a frame is looking a little easier than repairing and cleaning the old one.

OK Finally making some progress on the truck. Got some brackets for the front disc brakes and the other stuff to go with them. Also order a 29" front spring and the stuff to go with it also. I put the front breaks on but my steering angle isn't very good. I guess I'm going to have to put the brackets on the front side of the axle as opposed to the back like normal. I have seen a couple of builds were they did this. Think it will workout.

Also ordered the metal to get the brackets made for the four link and the leaf spring. Should hopefully get it in this week!

my 50 ford axle was the same way. the guy i bought it from took the long nut off and put a short one on fixed the problem...i can get you a pic if needed...

More pictures I can see the better. I like pictures more than words. It would be very helpful to me. This is my first build so I am try to google as much stuff as possible to learn.

Thanks

You need to check out project "Major Overhaul" in issue #42 of Old Skool Rodz, it's right on with what you're wanting to do and it's the same truck you (and I) have!

Well after a few hours of trying to knock out the kingpin, I gave in. I took the axle to the machine shop. They pressed them out and told me the brass bushing on the driver's side is wore out. I ordered a new set of kingpins. Hopefully the axle will be back together by the end of next week. The turning issue I figured out. I won't use the stock cap nut. I will use a regular nut and grind off whats left behind it. Should solve my problem.

It's looking like I'm going to by my buddy's 1988 bronco and use a lot of parts off it. It's got the 302 EFI in it with a manual trans. Plan on using the motor, rear end, front seats, radiator, gauges (possibly).

I will get pictures of the mod to the axle nut.

You keeping it EFI or swapping out the intake and going with a carb?

I would like to swap out to a carb set up. If I can find a buyer when i'm at that point I will see what the funds are looking like to make the switch.

Well I got the metal in for the front axle brackets. Quick question though.... I have this pipe I am going to use for a sleeve. The sleeve is to put the axle perches in. So do I weld the sleeve square with the 4inch angle iron? if I do that they will tilt the same with the axle when I bolt the angle iron on. Or should I bolt the angle iron on tilt the axle 7 degrees and then weld the sleeves at 0 degrees.

What angle should top perch be at?

I'm thinking I need to have the axle tilted at 7 and weld the sleeve at 0 degrees.
Also having the top perch at 0. That way when the axle springs it does it a 0 degree plain vs it being at 7 degree plan spring back at a angle.

Sorry for the rambling

Well I think I messed up. Unless someone can tell me how to make this work. How do you get the shackles to sit the correct way. I know there not suppose to be the way they are in the picture. I planned on cutting the bottom of the axle perches to get the to sit done to the bevel and then bolt them down. I didn't have big enough bolts, so thats way you see the miss matched bolts.

Any advice I could use.

Thanks

Assemble the spring with the leaves you think will be required. Probably at least 4 or 5. Measure the spring eye to spring eye distance. The distance between the perch eyes (center to center) should be 3" more.

by looking at your pics, I think your spring is just too long for the brackets and perches setup your trying to use..you might be able to use that spring if you attached your perches directly to your bones? that would set those attachments further outboard, might be enough to make it work

Tim

hate to waste metal but you might want to put the tubes on the outside of the angle iron I think your shackles are supposed to be horizoal with out weight on the spring
