If you're going to build this thing you might look into a 7mm-08 barrel.
It's a necked down 308 cartridge to a 7mm bullet. Makes for a flatter trajectory for the same bang.

I bought a chunk of hickory to build a target stock similar to that pic. but haven't got to it yet. That's only been about ten years ago but I'm still going to do it. Just letting the wood cure I guess.

i am going to use a savage action because of the ease of swapping barrels and bolts.
not as versatile as the contender but i can do a swap in a half hour
i am thinking hard about caliber but at least one will be 308
maybe 30benchrest
or even 7-08 as you suggested
i want to try a thousand yard prairie dog.
there is a competition in gillette wyo i wanna attend
i am going to keep the contender for up to 300 yards
but i want something thatll reach farther.
these type of guns are as specialized as a dragster
but for bullets

there is a guy that belongs to a group of mine that shot a prairie dog at 1100+ yards with something like this.
there were a number of witnesses and they have it on video

308 is a great round for accuracy but I prefer something in a 6.5. Less buck. One of the guys my brother shoots with has a custom 260 Rem. and he's unbeatable.
