The Jive Aces referenced Bill Haley & The Comets. I saw them live at the Prom Ballroom in St. Paul, MN in 1956 or 1957. This definitely was the beginning of Rock & Roll. In this clip you can hear the basic rhythm the Jive Aces continue to use.

It was a simple and glorious time to be a teenager. And yes, we did the Lindy Hop as shown in the video, just not very well in my case.

Funny story....

All these old groups and music that kids today would never have heard or know of reminded me of this :

While I was teaching the DARE program at the local middle school, the kids were supposed to learn the 8 ways to say no to drugs...one of which was the broken record method.... (like when they skip and play the same thing over and over) (that's for the youngen's out there)...... one of the 5th graders raised his hand and asked "What's a Record"?.... I was shocked but apparently not one of them knew what a record was... so I immediatley changed it to CD so they would know what I meant...... [S
