I had looked at these pics before and didn't notice. This panel and mine are one and the same, minus the smurfiness. How it got from Desert Classics for $6000 to a museum in ND where I bought it for less than a tenth of that price is a bit of a concern. I'm going to call them today.

I hope it wasn't stolen somewhere. I know the old guy I got it from didn't but he could have unknowingly bought it from someone who did.

Holy crap! I do believe you are right! Did you get paperwork with it? Hopefully it's just a common case of "somebody payed too much and took a loss" ....but I'd check it out too if it were me. Let us know what you find out.

Apparently Dessert Classics list stuff they don't own in several states, so maybe the owner sold it to someone else and never told them.

I hate when people do that! I've been burnt from a guy doing that! I drove out to New Mexico to buy 6 old trucks to find out the guy never owned them. He was going to use my money to buy them after I paid him!

We have a local guy who does that, takes pictures and lists them on c-list. He took me on a wild goose chase that cost me a day and a tank of gas to show me various old cars that were sitting out in pastures. He wants people to buy them, then he makes his deal after he has them sold.

I made a couple calls. The old guy I got it from had it for around 5 years, and he got it from a Montana rancher. I talked to him and he had it sitting around since he was a kid and had no knowledge that anyone ever took pictures or asked to list it. I also called Desert Classics and left a message. He called back and told me any inquires needed to be done via the form on the website. I asked him if it was still for sale and he said yes. So I sent the email form and asked where I could view it and also about the title they said they could provide. Now I'm waiting for the reply, should be interesting.

this is pretty interesting.. curious to see what they have to say

Wouldn't it be considered some kind of fraud to sell something you don't own? Or to even indicate you own it and conduct a sale? So what happens when it is "sold" by the first guy, and the real owner says "nope, don't want to sell it, going to fix it up someday." The buyer is out some money, the seller can fulfill the deal, and the real owner possibly knows nothing about any of it?[S

Well, no reply from them. I suppose if they had the old owner's name and number, tired to call him and found out it's long gone, they will just blow me off.
I'm going to bug them some more and at some point ask them why my panel truck is for sale on their site.
