I like the period correct ones and my rat rod leans that way but I don't have the scratch to do it like those guys do. I went with the Caddy flathead to be different and I just couldn't put a Ford engine in a Buick. I do want to switch to bias ply tires but those things aren't cheap. Holding off for now.

White walls...chrome steel wheels...a car hop too...does not get much cooler than this right here...

I grew up around old hot rodders, it was just normal to me that the old man had a '55 Mercury Monterey with a 312 and triple Strombergs. He had a Model A roadster pickup, juice front brakes added, with a high compression head, side draft carbs, an open drive shaft and a late 50s Fiat rearend. We had a slingshot dragster with a Mercury 8CM and a 4 barrel Edmunds boat intake, a Culbert in and out gear box with a narrowed Caddy rearend. My uncle still tooled around in a hot '31 A coupe, lil flat 4 sounding great.

My first car was an old '53 Plymouth, the six went to hell and she got a Desoto 276ci hemi. Then we lowered it, hood got peaked (with lead) and the body partially shaved. Eventually a Tijuana tuck and roll upholstery job. We bought, sold, tinkered on tons of rigs, too many to mention. Later I got a '24 Dodge roadster, that ended up with a '40 Ford front and rear, dodge 318 and auto. Whole thing was channelled over a Z-ed Model A truck frame. The last hot rod we built up a '67 Chrysler 300, the rear got jacked up, straight piped, it was a beauty but after that 440 got built... she roared like a lion.

The old man passed away, my mom sold everything for peanuts. My Plymouth and roadster were soon stolen after (I suspect a certain relative). I didn't touch another classic for 25 years, not till I found my lil '27 Ford RPU body.

I need to go through some photo albums, upload some pictures.
