Well the racing season is about to begin. Any NASCAR fans out there?

Will Jimmie Johnsons start off where left off? He starts on the pole at the Super Bowl of racing the Daytona 500. Could be! Can he do it 3 years in a row?

Jr. wins the Bud shootout. Can he produce a winning season this year?

What about Gordon? Come on I know there's some Gordon fans out there. I've seen ya!

I think Hendrix racing is going to be unstoppable this year.

Waltrip starts in the first row at Daytona. Will Toyota have what it takes this year?

What do guys think?

I'm disappointed that Gibbs went to Toyota for this year after 17 years with GM. Since they don't run Studebakers anymore (yes they did back in the 50's), I think Hendrick is going to kick everyones butt this year. I'm hoping Jr wins the most races and Gordon don't win any....but that's just me. I'll also go out on the limb and predict that Toyota will get their first win this year, but I don't think it will be a Gibbs car that will get the first win...It will either be Waltrip or Blaney that will get the first one.

Did I mention they used to race Studebakers? :D

If Chad Knaus gets another big suspension, JJ will win another championship. But if Gordon and Johnson stink it up again I will get more work done on my car.

Well i'd be the gordon fan your referring to...............just not so fond of Hendrick since hiring Jr. but then again I dont really care for the other Hendrick drivers either. I use to despise Tony Stewart but he is becoming more likeable lately...................Not real happy bout Toyota in nascar but we'll see how that hashes out.

No Gordon fans in this house.....

I am a Dale JR. fan, a Mark Martin fan, and a Tony Stewart fan.
Reason4 can't stand Tony Stewart after that comment about Dega fans a few years back.

As far as the Toyota deal goes, they fought for it, they got it, I think they deserve it. Besides, growth is always good for the sport...

Yea, I think Toyota will pull it off this year they seemed like they were finally getting it together at the end of last year. Their first win will probably be with Waltrip but I would really like to see Jarret win one too.

Lets hope Hendrick is good for Jr , his last couple of years although good have not been stellar. Can he get a championship this year let hope yes.

Gordon, well Gordon is Gordon! I don't dislike him but...... I went to Dega last October and it was kinda fun to see him win there. Those Dega fans are sure passionate about Jr.

Is Martin running a partial season this year? He was off to such a great start last year.

Yeah and did you know they used to race Studebakers in NASCAR! Anybody got any pictures of Stude race cars? I have seen them before.

Nascar racing is some of the best nap times i get around here just something about those cars going round and round that puts me to sleep. I was once a big nascar fan but the pretty boy politically correct way nascar has went it just all seems scripted now days.

I only know one Rule 12.4.(A) "Actions detrimental to stock car racing." ...
And those things are what makes it fun to watch how can it be detrimental to the sport when the fans enjoy it. And there is only one driver that tells it like it is and even he has to take back what he says so he can play in Nascars sand box. And yes i have no favorite driver anymore I lost mine in turn 3 at daytona.

DMW...all ya gotta do is ask :D

Yeah, I can sort of relate. Its not the days of the Alabama Gang, Yarboro, Petty and the like. But I stiil try to like it. However, the best race I ever saw on TV on was the one where the Allison brothers and Cale Y got into it in the infield. I think that was the first fully televised NASCAR race on TV. Kinda gone down hill since then.

I do prefer the short tracks and road tracks to the super speedways.
I used to race dirt short tracks and it was like I went to the fights and a race broke out!

Ron.... you're giving me some ideas ..... a Stude replica NASCAR racer?

I used to race asphalt short track and believe me, the fights weren't only at the dirt tracks....I miss the good old days

The reason I posted some of the 50's pics was because of yours...Just don't dupicate the white one that bounced off the fence at Darlington:D

Hey Ron

Is that the "Darlington Stripe" on that white Studebaker I keep hearing about?

im a fan of nascar . big jr fan, who had to go to the darkside when jr went i followed...lol

I hope toyota (and hyundai cuz they have a plant in the states too) does do good. The only one id ont want to see race is Honda. The last thing we need is having four bangers beat a bunch of v8s.

Later,
Preston

PS,The Stude pics are awesome!

Well, Honda does make a V8 and they do real good in open wheel racing!
But I'm partial to the old American made cars...Fords, Chevys, Olds, Pontiacs, Buicks, Mopars, Hudsons, and did I mention Studebakers!:D

Thanks Ron, for the pictures:cool:

DMW,
The race in question was the "1979 Daytona 500" The incident took place in turn 3 on the last lap. Richard petty went on to win that one I do believe.

Well first thanks guys, it's the fans like you guys that support my family.

Unfornately, the one cup team we build for didn't make that 500, disappointing after all the effort we put into the cars this winter, and the 10 hours we spent fixing a car last saturday night. I can agree with some of you about it's boring now and being partial to some drivers, but it's about entertainment, so Tony Stewart draws a crowd, so Tony Stewart pushes the envelop. When I bitc about it, I get the same answer, things change, change with it or get left behind.

We build for all three series, but my favorite is the truck series, I love to build them, and don't mind fixing them because they are out there beating, racing, and proving they can drive or proving they STILL can drive, a good mixture of young and old. They're not getting a big paycheck to ride around and like Busch, you can still twist the bodies up and try new things, something that is long gone with the COT.
