Very cool it isn't all going to the scrapper!

The differences between a collector and a hoarder: A collector is organized and doesn't crap in a bucket.

Lost me for awhile watching the videos. Awesome collection and all in great shape. I'm glad he is letting it all go to new homes.

i take it the guy had passed, it was sent to me in a e-mail, and don't know when or where.

I just don't understand any of it. How he afforded it. Why he was so obsessed.
Apparently he did not use and enjoy any of it.

I was one of the few people who said I thought it was a shame one man hoarded so much stuff. Everyone who responded to the thread on the HAMB thought it was just great that he stored it all away. My thinking was that all those cars were being kept away from others who could be fixing them up, but what do I know.

The story goes that he knew everyone in his area and he watched the Obituaries in the paper. He would contact the Widows and offer to clean out the "junk" in their garages for free, and he got most of his stuff that way. I think he did sort of create a museum where people could tour it, but not sure about that.

I guess most of us on here understand to a degree being obsessed with collecting cars and parts, but if you look at some of the places those American Picker guys go into those collections are just sick. I mean, the guys who have some of that stuff have it stacked and tossed so deep and in such a disarray that they can't possibly know what all they have or use any of it. Yet, a lot of them won't part with any of it. Those guys do have some issues, I think.

The auction happened about 20 miles outside of Chicago, you could only attend by invitation only and just to get the right to bid it cost $150 to $500 depending on what group you were bidding on.

Did he have all the money he needed and didn't need to sell anything while he was alive?

Yeah, I think he was comfortable financially. Most times when you see this kind of hoarding the guy is existing on dog food and then they find $20 million hidden under his matress.

I think some of these guys really don't even think about the money aspect. Lots of them grew up poor, during the depression, and hoard stuff now so they will never be broke again. But the stuff takes over and pretty soon they are a slave to the collection.........it owns them.

(That's pretty deep, huh ? And I've only had one beer ! :D)

Yes very deep but also very true. One of my side business deals with elderly who have fallen into the system with no family to speak of and it is amazing how much they hoard and it is primarily because of the depression they do not trust banks or most anyone else for that matter. They keep everything because they have the mindset that they do not ever want to be without again.

Watching this video is the best Friday night I have had in a while. When I win the lottery maybe another one these amazing auctions will come up.
