Well guy's I bought an old MH with the intention of using it to go to
runs, and trailer my truck to shows!! Question is do you think this is a copout?
Think I'll get much flack for trailering to events?
I've just always wanted to camp at the shows, and be able to spend lots of time there, and not worry about traveling to motels and such!
Would really like to get some opinions on this, don't be afraid to hurt my
feelings, I'm a big boy, I can take it!! ha ha

nope

no, actually it's a good idea. l do it when l have to go to a town far away and it's a weekend show. sometimes with a one day show then l can stay a few days and hang with friends l don't get to see as often as l want.

Later

Well you asked, so I say trailers are for boats. :)

If you want to camp then why not purchase a pull-behind camper for your truck? That way you can drive your car (what they were meant for - not "shows") and still cover the things you say you are wanting from the MH venture. Problem solved right?

Like so...

Every one I know -including myself - who has tried this route , no longer has the motor home . And that was back when gas was cheap . Much easier and cheaper to throw a bag in the rat and stay at a motel .Usually there are 3 of us who travel together ,motel room divided by 3 is almost free and the motel supplies a 3rd bed free . Way more fun to convoy to a show and create a stir every place we stop . I never got any flack when I was trailering my truck though .

When I seen the title of this thread, first thing i thought of was donor vehicle for a dually rat:D I been hanging out on here too much it seems..

You would be doing it because you are trying to get 2 vehicles to the same show.Thats different than hauling it there because its not drivable. The campgrounds are a lot of fun at the bigger shows.

Maybe I should explain, one reason for doing it this way, is my wifey won't go very far in my truck! Also my truck has no door glass, no heater, no wipers.....so on!!!
Besides we've been thinking of doing the RV thing for a while, she just doesn't really know my motives!!:D I do drive to local stuff, don't intend on changing that, just when it's a weekend event, it seems like it will be fun to stay onsight!!

Anyway thanks for the comments, I don't really look to get a lot of hassle,
but I've done my railing against trailer queens in the past, and don't want to fal into that!

Thanks Guy's!!

I too will trailer my ride to the big shows, and stay in my RV, I have no problem driving my rat, but 6 to 8 hrs or more away from home is just too far to drive it, as I get older the comfort thing plays a big part, Every show you go to there are lots of cars that drive into the show, but go look at all the hotel parking lots and you will see many trailers sitting around. Do what makes you feel comfy. Enjoy the ride and have fun doing it.

Trailering a rat

If it keeps the wife happy, more involved in what you like. Go for it. Money saved on hotels.Still getting home style cooking. You built the truck the way you wanted so travel the way that pleases you and no one else.
