I am in the process of buying a 51 f-1 ford. 1 of the things it needs to be finished is brakes . I was thinking about just rebuilding all the drum brakes but all the drums are gone. I can find replacement drums for the rear but not the front. Does anyone know where i can find some for the front or a disc brake conversion? I looked on speedway motors but it shows the kit they sale only goes up to 1948 was a 1948 & 1951 same front axles? I am new at the rat rod building but have built many race cars over the yrs. All help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Drums..and where to find them.

I just finished another set that are being shipped out tomorrow.I called several places before I found front drums.Check with Napa, they have them...so does Rock Auto.I also found them at Pep boys,Auto Zone and Advanced Auto.Dennis Carpenter carries the hardware, but you have to buy one piece at a time. Also check with Ebay,I found a guy who carries most of the stuff you need.

Thanks for all the info guess i was looking in wrong spot when all else fails keep reading thanks again

My .02$ - go with the discs. It may not look as right as the original drums, but they have a lot more stopping power even without power assist. I put a disc kit on my 63 F100 - well worth the difference.

I will probably go with the disc set up its cheap . Any idea what master cylinder i will need to run ?

I'm thinking a master cyl. off of a 71-72 chevy truck with orig. disc/drum would be the best bet....;)

and welcome to the site slopoe!:D

I used a early Mustang dual reservoir for my 63 - it was a bolt on except for the rod length. Not sure about a 51 though - odds are the bolt pattern is different.
