Hi everyone,

I am new to the board and the rat rod world. I picked up a 23 Bucket replica and want to upgrade the front drums to discs but don't know what axle combo I have. The axle has "3833377 GM 20" stamped on it. The king pins I have measure .816 diameter and 5.39 length. I can't figure out what year this axle is from. I think it might be a truck front axle because there are leaf spring pads. I can post pics if someone can tell me how.

I have searched this on the internet until I was blue in the face. Any help identifying this axle/KP would be greatly appreciated!

I do to but if I click on them, I see the pic. Are you able to see them if you click on them? Sorry, newbie......

looks kinda like a 46-54 chevy truck era. Not sure though. By the way, your steering up front like that with the arms pointing in will do all kinds of weird stuff when turning. Your ackerman angle will be completely backwards.. looks like there might be room to put it behind the axle and through the wishbones. just my $.02

It doesn't look like a typical Chev axle to me - here's a pic of a 41 Chev pickup axle - though the leaf mounts have been removed, you can see the shape is very different. I have a 34 axle and it looks very similar. Also the 55 - 59 axles look like this though about 4" wider. Since it has a GM part number on it, it may be another GM brand, Buick, Pontiac, Olds, Caddy, from pre independent front end cars??
Like jfg455 said, the axle is mounted backwards, the tie rod should be in the rear.
It actually looks more like a late 40's Ford pickup axle..

Through some of my findings, a Van did pop up but I couldn't be sure. i appreciate the replies. I really like having an older style axle (unlike the aftermarket ones) but need front disc brakes. Do you think I could buy a ~47-53 Chevy disc brake conversion kit with new spindles and have the axle machined to accomodate the new KPs?
