Today I picked up my driveshaft from the driveline shop that built it for me, and the owner told me to come with him to the back. He wanted to show me something. He is an oldtime rod builder, and has been building this 1917 Ford shoptruck for a few years.

The body is all hand made from aluminum, as is the bed and running boards. The engine is a 2.8 v6 Chevy, with automatic and 9 inch rear. He really is doing a nice job on it, and the mechanicals are well done. He is now cutting the contour of the roof to flow better, before mounting the top.

Not my cup of tea, but I had to appreciate the nice workmanship and thought he has put into it. As I said, he is going to toss driveshafts into the rear of it when done, so the bed is pretty big and strong. Thought you guys might like to see what can be done with a little imagination and lots of work.

Don,
That is incredible & lots of work, you can tell he took his time! Only one problem, what to do___ no rust!

I think he mentioned he has a '34 Plymouth too, but said this one is taking longer than he thought. The more I looked at it, the more I realized just how good of a job he is doing, all the tin work and all is very neat. Nothing looked cobbled up or anything.

You can tell he has a lot of work in that one. Not really my cup of tea either but it sure seems to be nicely crafted and I would certianly stop by and check it out if I saw it at a show or a run.

Wow !! great looking truck a ton of work has been put into it for sure. But it kinda looks like a Phone booth . But looks great just the same :)

Nice Job..

That fellow's done a heck of a job with the aluminum.
Very impressive, and the cab looks like a phone booth because that's how they used to look.
It reminds me of my '20 Ford TT, body and bed were made by Field Mfg. on the Ford chassis.
Ford delivered the trucks built to the firewall, then sent them out for bodies and beds as needed.
One odd thing, drivers door is at the rear of the cab, passenger door is at the front of the cab.
And the 3 garage monkeys are an extra cost  '22

Really cool trucks guys. I have an oppertunity to rebuild a 31 Chevy truck myself. The owner is really fed up with the project and has it just sitting out in the weather. He paid way too much for the rig, but I figure I can make it into a low-slung rat style truck, I can actually triple what he has in the whole mess. Well, thanks for the motivation on the owner built truck. Just too cool, all out of aluminum, and expensive.:D
