Cddy 500 ID question??

Can anyone by looking at this pic tell me if this looks like a Caddy 500? Its a drive away and im not wanting to make the trip for no reason...lol..tnx, RR

472/500/425/368 ci engines all look the same and there are no numbers to tell you what you have. the only way is to measure the stroke. This can be done with a stiff wire down the sparkplug hole.

Stroke can be measured through spark plug hole if the engine will turn over.
1968-'74 472, 1977-'79 425, 1980-'85 368: 4.060" (less than 4-1/8")
1970-'76 500: 4.300" (more than 4-1/4")

Its supposed to be a running 7 50 with the tbo 400 tranny still hooked up. Im toignoran to understand he stiff wire the plug hole. Were there n ID numbers on the block?

pull the plug and place a piece of stiff wire onto the top of the piston when it is at the very bottom of the cylinder. mark the wire at the spark plug/head surface and remove the wire. measure it and see what ya got. I recommend turning it over by hand if possible, but I guess you could pull all the plugs, get #1 to the top and measure all the rest of the cylinders for depth using the stiff wire. measure the longest one and wa la.

there should be a casting number on the top of the
bellhousing mounting flange, it should end in 5200 for the 500.

and the cranks have a casting number between the 4th main journal
and the last rod journal, either 094 or 793.
