This is on my sons gasser pickup just got.

1965 Ford F100, used to be a six now 390. Wasn't charging when he got it, put in good battery, new alt and voltage regulator.

The idiot light was burned out, replaced it and it stays on. The truck must have come with and alternator originally because it says alt not gen.

The parts guy he got the regulator from is a Ford guy from way back and my son is confident he gave him the regulator for an alternator not generator. Its the old style screw on connector not the plug in.

Oliver has says he's gone over the grounds and all seems to be ok as far as the grounds go.

Its probably one of those simple things. I haven't had a chance to look at it myself.

Any suggestions?

CD,
A shop near me has a killer machine that will analyze any elec prob. They charge $50 but I've found it's well worth it & it definitely cuts down on my frustration level! I HATE elec probs!!!

BoB

Would this be of any help.

Just by reading your first post when you went from 6 to V8, I'd venture to say you may have left an engine to body ground wire off. make sure you have a good 3 way grounding system. Bat to body, bat to engine, engine to body. Fords like this. Also, if you have an electrical plug for a trailer on the truck and it's corroded, it does all kinds of funny things to your elect system. It back feeds like crazy.

Food for thought: I had a guy bring his Cuda to me because it was burning up alternators. He kept replacing them. Turns out he had to replace a burnt out clutch and forgot to hook up the engine (this case trans) to body wire. I hooked it back up and problems were solved.
