time to put the hubcaps on with more than double sided tape. the repop gmc caps had an 8 inch flange, and the rally caps a 7. also, my previous test with the old 41 cap showed me that the rally cap metal is really thin, and that I cant just cut the flange off the gmc cap, there needs to be a little height left. the mobsteels taper more than rally style smoothies or artillery wheels do.

so I cut a jig from some 11ga to trim the gmc caps

I used a 6 inch cutoff wheel in a grinder and held the wheel flat to the jig, worked nice.

this let me center the unmodified rally cap in the hole easily, and the extra material in the corners didnt burn through with tacks.

first one took an hour, making the jig and lining it up, the next three took 10 minutes total.

did some more driving, first thing I noticed is the toe is out and the tires are squalling haha. second thing is the rad cap is junk. but man she is really looking good. I love the dim DRL in the headlights, looks like an old 6V bulb!

both! I have it listed just about everywhere. cash sale preferred, big discount that way haha.

made the ~160 mile round trip to see the original owner, had to do a quick radio install because listening to the chassis for nonexistant problems got pretty old.

Look at that grin! I expected a quick turn but he wanted to ride around and we stopped various places to show off. he showed me his ford finally finished and running around. we also stopped by his pasture and he has some other stuff drug out for me to look at.

I loafed around the rest of the day, ended up driving around 5 hours. it was a great shakedown and other than just a small adjustment to the toe (again, round 5, its these giant front tires that are sensitive to toe) I think its really running great. stopped at my favorite picture spot. the sun was already behind the building but it still worked.

my wife says she will miss this one the most. I agree. if things were different I would try to keep it, but I am not sentimental whatsoever about metal and rubber and plastic so probably best to go.
