I understand what you're saying. Sometimes there's just not enough hours in the day. And it's great to be able to say "Yeah. I built it myself" but sometimes you just have to back up, regroup and ask yourself "Do i want to spend the next year (or years) trying to find the time to build this thing or do i wanna go cruisin' now?" Sometimes it's just better to buy an already finished drivable car.
That's what i decided to do with my T-Bucket. I've wanted to build one for years. I researched the different kits, made a list of what i would need to finish the car or do one from scratch, figured out a realistic price guide and time frame and then took a long hard look at the list. I even considered someone's abandoned project. I realized that between my two other projects and working 58 to 60 hours a week i would never finish the car. And i could buy a running drivable car cheaper than i could build one. One i could cruise and enjoy now. And since my jeep had turned into more of a daily driver than the rock crawler i had built it to be i decided to sell it and buy a T-Bucket. I realize by hitting the swap meets and craigslist i could build one on a tight budget and say "Yeah i built it myself". But like i said, working 58 to 60 hours a week don't leave much time for shoppin' or buildin".
And i have no problems telling people "No i didn't build it. I wanted a finished car i could drive now". Most true gear heads just smile and shake their head in agreement. And i'm cruisin' now. It might only be to work and back but i'm still enjoying the ride instead of wondering if i'll ever get the thing finished.
