Try some more and larger piecuts. on both sides...
thanks guys, i appreciate the kudos. Since this is the first time i have ever chopped a top, i have learned allot and know a few things i would do differently, mostly the welding part......
Like what?
I know, i had a 20# bottle and was going through 2 bottles a week. I finally spent the money and moved up to a 60# bottle. Which is empty as of last night. So if the gas shop is open today, i get to find out how much it's going to cost to fill the 60# bottle.....willierat said:I've gone through a spool of wire and a tank of gas and about 3 grinding wheels! YIKES!!!
Thanks gregster......Gregster said:I think the work you have done is outstanding , all your welds look great to me . It is a major task that you have handled well .
I used 1/4" round rod from home depot, took a picture of the old style ford emblem from the internet and bent the rod using a torch, heat and a pair of channel locks. I used diamond plate for the main support of my tailgate and then tack welded my ford letters in place. Then took a piece of expanded metal, cut an oval in it, used some more of the 1/4" round rod, used a torch and bent it to fit into the oval of the expanded metal. Hopefully when i am done with the entire back end, the oval and letters will have a shadow box look..........Neverdone said:Have to say I really like the tailgate!!!! How did you write Ford in the center like that? The rest just looks like expanded steel over diamond plate, but the writing is awesome!!!
