Im Going to be using a 8ba sidevalve in my 49 ford. Im not fully rebuilding it because all the parts in it aren't too bad, plus i'm trying to save some money.

Ill probably go dual carbs, and ive had a go porting and polishing it for some practice. Should i spend the bit extra and get a bit more sporty cam, Ive never driven a car with a flathead in it so i don't know what the performance is like standard.

A cam is definitely worthwhile

so is lightening the flywheel.
IIRC they weigh about 38 lbs stock yet reportedly can be cut down to about 16lbs. My machinist lightened mine to 19 lbs and the acceleration was great.
