Doing things backwards?!?

So my neighbor has this Plymouth roadrunner, good 10' car. He bought it and had the upholstery done, then decided to paint it. Then decided to build a nasty 440 for it. Then decided to call me to replace the rusty a$$ trunk floor?!?!. I think that should have been the first thing done!!!

So here we are cutting the floor out after he fiberglassed and silicones the wholes up then sprayed raptor liner over it!

He bought the parts and didn't buy the 2 piece floor pan like I asked him to. So now I am trying to map out how to cut up a perfectly good floor and make it fit and go back into the car and look good.

Let's begin!

Unfortunately doing things backwards often require to do things twice. I personally doing things over is the worst thing when doing anything. Not doing things right the first time because you don't have time? I once read this. If you don't have time to do it right the 1st time when are you going to have time to fix it? Jim

Agreed!!!!
I think what makes it worse is now that the car is all done and you have to take way more precautions so you don't mess something else up that has already been finished, he wants it done quickly and cheaply. I will get it done in a timely manner but I'm not going to half a$$ things. I think sometimes I just need to learn to say no

It all comes down to patience. My dad used to say, "patience requires a lot of energy" and "don't confuse motion with achievement" It takes some years to wrap their heads around this. Some never do.

I plug welded where the frame rails are and used body panel adhesive around the edges.
Worked very well if I do say so myself.

But a lot of the cars that look great on the outside are actually ones that should have a sign on them that says "Whatever you do, don't look underneath", or "Don't pull up the carpet". Floorboards patched with household duct work metal, or old license plates. Rockers rotted out, the cancer maybe just covered with the rocker molding, or worse, molded over with aluminum tape and bondo.

He knew good and well the trunk was rusty. But you are right cheaper to buy done!

Still pluggin`away on my rusty beemer. I may have over paid a little bit but when I look at pics of most "done" or "great shape" cars, I can see the exact same crap in the exact same spots, just coverd with some paint...

I`m not going for the trailer queen here, I`ll drive the wheels off of this one, but leaving rust and other crap for after paint does not sound like the way to go... [S

I was watch Bitchin Rides on Motortrend. Guy bought a car for his wife like what she had when she was younger. Car looked gorgeous. As they started to take thing apart it was no where near gorgeous. Hidden rust and things just not done right."Buyer Beware". Jim

I saw a Bronco the other day at a buddy shop that was bought at Barrett-Jackson. He named it zip tie. The paint looks pretty, there's not a padded one hole strap or any sort of securing mechanism for fuel lines brake lines anything other than zip ties! It's got to look pretty for the cameras
