Newbie and I am sure this has been asked before so if anyone can lead me in the right thread just let me know. I would like to get a modern frame to make a roadster out of it. Simply, I am a little hesitant that I would not be able to convince the wife that I had a frame welded and have her let me take the boys out so I am looking for the donor frame. You know the s-10 that everyone talks about but I am looking for the roadster design with the exposed front end and I know the s-10 would not fit the bill. I am not even sure if there is one out there in the 70's or 60's. I presume I would have to look at teh 50's or 40's and instead of looking under every 40's and 50's car in the junkyard I thought I would come to the experts. Oh by the way I forgot to tell you I am poor so it will be a project which I am looking forward to hahahahah Thanks

there may be other ways but, but if looking for a good solid foundation you might consider a pre-fabbed T-bucket frame.....they are professionally welded (safe) usually made of 2x3 box tubing (sturdy) and when you figure any expenses of beefing up an old frame--extra metal to box it, and hiring welding etc the T-bucket style frame will usually be as affordable (cheap)

there are guys doing that on here..maybe they can add more

I use 80s Dodge D-50 frames for most of my rats. It fits a 26 Forf like it was ment to be and is crusher car priced. It has an nice Z up in the front and is a strong rectangular boxed frame. These shots are from my T and where I was stripping the body off of one for pix. I have a 33 Dodge PU and have built 3 Ts and and A coupe on them. The IFS is OK If you are really going way low budget with no tools, but really needs removed for anything else.

Its a bit of work cutting off all the front suspension and various parts off, but not unpleasant, and the price is right. A torch and a 4" and 7" grinder is pretty much a gotta have --Ya gotta have tools for anything though.

Thanks PA now I got to go to the junk yard and get one. Oh and by the way I will be asking more questions since I hold you as the expert and I love the pics of the rat, looks like the way I want it. Thanks

Build your own frame, Here's a few sites that have FREE plans

This is good site..

http://jackak10.tripod.com/tbucket.html

How to align a frame, install bodies & fenders & other information
including Model A Frame dimensions:
I like this site because it shows where all the body mounts go and holes
for motor mounts and brackets.

http://www.wescottsauto.com/Tech/frame_specs.html

Or try this site:

The above site is down doing a complete overhaul to there entire system,
will be up again on sept 6th,09...

Good Luck

Speedway!

Like the Preacher said, you can always buy a perimeter frame from someone like Speedway... they're not all that expensive & are a good foundation!

Can you weld?

Doc, if you can weld, I mean really weld, there are basic perimeter frame kits on e-bay for $175 plus shipping, that and the help from great people here on the triple R and you will have a new frame that you can build off of and be safe and very much cool. Good luck. P.S. if you cant weld or weld good enough for suspension or frame structure, you can probably BARTER your services for a PRO Certified welder to do the stitching for you. And yes a GOOD welder is worth every penny of his fee, no diffrent than a "good" doc. Lot of good advice and people here to help, again good luck with your project.
