That's pretty cool 24. I'm lookin for someone who I can trust to do some lettering down here in Broward. Are they gonna paint it on or use vinyl?

The problem I'm having is everyplace wants to use vinyl and I want it painted. You just can't beat the look of painted letters/logos. The vinyl is too perfect and lacks personality in my opinion.

yup , not to many guys out there who know how to paint signs anymore , vinyl is faster and for the most part perfect , but like you said , can`t beat hand painting

Gas , isn`t there an art school in ft. lauderdale ? they might be able to help you out with some lettering , just a thought...

24,
Here is an idea for ya...Have vinyl cut but use the sheet and remove the letters to be painted. Paint the lettering on by hand, and while it is still wet, pull the vinyl sheet off. That way you still have the brush strokes you are looking for.(and there will probably be some bleed through so the outline won't look too perfect)

Did that make sence. I think they call it backmasking.

I've already played around with what Flat suggested. It works great.
I left some of the edges lifted slightly and also used a piece of tape rolled up, and dabbed the wet paint for a bleed through or worn effect.
I'm going to do this on my A doors.

Dastrick: Don't you have some good sign painters or custom car painters over on your side of the State? I bet if you dig around you will find someone. After all, lots of custom bike owners must have someone they can recommend. Billy Lane is right up the road there in Melbourne, bet his shop can offer some names. If you need an in with him, let me know. He is good friends with my next door neighbor at my shop.

Over here, we have a guy named Pat Cleland. He has been around for years, and does some very good stuff. I'm gonna have him flame the T, I think.

Don

Yea Don, We have a few custom graphics guys here that I know of. I was specifically looking for an old school type sign painter to do the lettering I was after. Everyone I've talked to either wants to air brush or use vinyl and I'm after a pretty specific vintage lettering look. The stencil idea could work though.

Thanks for the Billy Lane tip/offer. That reminded me that my son spotted him in the swap meet area at Daytona last year. Billy posed with him for a pic.
