That's kinda sad. My guess, 3 words: panicked, no helmet.

ouch

l have called motor bikes "donor cycles" for 35 years.

to many people don't know how to handle them. then there is the idiot vehicle drivers that don't pay attention and hit the bikes.

l feel bad for the guys family:(

Later:cool:

I'm 'bout ready to sell my bike. The only time I even ride anymore is on trips out across country backroads. Too many close calls in traffic... Think I will invest the money from selling the bike into the RR.

geeez people....wear the helmet! Please! I have been riding for 30+ years. And you know what, I still dont consider myself a "expert" and know what else....still wear the lid after all these years and living in a helmet free state! Strangly enough...still living must be doing something right

That's sad. I remember back in the 80's when sport bikes started getting really fast, a mechanic at a local Honda dealership here in S. Fla was killed in the alley behind the dealership testing a new bike he had just assembled out of the crate. Lost control and hit a building.

Chalk it up to helmet's, skills or whatever!! Sounds like mid-life crisis to me!!
If you're not a rider, don't start at 40. Feel bad for the family as said earlier!!

I think DMW hit it right. Start small and work your way up...too many times when you start losing control you panic. Very sad

Some friends of my Son Don were just hit from behind while riding their Harley. She was killed and he was badly hurt. Some idiot chick in a Honda plowed right into the back of them. Last I heard, "charges were pending."

I hate to even drive with some of these jerks when I am in a 4000 lb car, let alone a bike, or even my roadster.

Don

Its a shame, but its like the videos of some one sticking the wife, girlfriend on a bike and you see them full throttle into the fence or bushes. If you dont know what your doing get in a place where theres room to maneuver. I still dont think it should be mandatory but I bet he wasnt wearing his helmet.

Like Rainman said: "midlife crisis"

Probably just got divorced - hence the apartment and new harley. Hope his life insurance was paid up for his kid's sake.

You almost never see an older first-time rider getting something small to start and learn on. They always go for a big twin and lots of chrome. I've seen a few of them wobbling up to the local watering hole over the years. Scary!

We had a Deputy that had never ridden a motorcycle. He put in for motor school and failed the first time. He bought a used police bike to practice. He enrolled again and during the high speed practice, he didn't lean the bike enough in a turn, crossed into oncoming lanes and hit a Lexus head on. I've ridden since I was 16 and a lot of respect for motorcycles, they aren't for everyone.

What gets me is when I see some guy on a Crouch Rocket all decked out in cycle PPE with a chick on the back with no helmet, shorts and a t shirt- and he's hot shotting down the street like a idiot. If he going to drive that way with someone with him at lease give them the helmet!!

i feel for the family and for him.i quit bikes. too many close calls. too many friends hurt or killed on em over the years. my brother hit a guard rail a few months ago on his road king. i.c.u. for a few days. his left arm still wont work. i love bikes but i do want to get older than dirt.i feel for any biker goin down. but these days theres not many good places to ride. too many folks dont watch for bikes.if you ride one make it loud as heck, maby them drivers can hear you if they dont see you.dangit,be careful folks.

I agree! Good to see you here Geezer! This is a great site full of knowledge and really good people..kinda like another we know.:D

thanks geezer... Some people have patches or stickers that say "if its too loud your too old!" well.....I need one that says "if its too loud...I know you heard me! Or..."if its too loud your hearing it not shot like mine is!

really?

Guys,
I'm not critizing your thoughts, but step back and think about how many people know that got killed in a car that was too much for them? Do we state messages or say cars are unsafe, should have had seatbelts, airbags, ect.
I have been riding all my life, and yes it is dangerous. So is getting in a car now days. When God calls it doesn't matter if we are on a motorcycle or sitting on the crapper.

I agree and disagree at the same time, I'll just leave it at that and say,.....

All the safety precautions in the world can't fit stupid.

Most people when they start to ride they make the mistake of wrapping there hand up around the throttle to control the throttle so that there wrest is in the straight position when riding. Because of this when they freeze they have a habit of keeping there wrist straight which in turn keeps the bike at half throttle.

And yes there are a lot of people out there that think there first bike should be a Harley and they do not understand that the Harley have a lot of low end torque and they get in trouble real quick.

These year I had a 50 year old guy come to me looking for a Harley and he has not rode in 20 years. I try to put him on a 883 sportster but he said that a girl bike and ended up buying a 1200 sportster that was carbed and cammed. Well to make the story short. It been in my shop 4 time for being wrecked. I think this bike spends more time on it side then on it wheels. I talk to his daughter and For some reason I can not find the parts to fix it this time.
The rider safety course is a real good idea but they still should start out with something smaller and not as much torque.
