ebay really really sucks now. They couldn't care less if you have a problem and do absolutely nothing to bogus sellers and buyers unless you hire an attorney and who's going to hire an attorney over a $25 item. Nothing but Craig's List for me now. What does everyone else use? Where do you guys sell your cars?

At one time I was an Ebayaholic, both on the buying and selling end. Made and spent a whole lot of money there. Now I rarely go on, even to look at stuff. For me what did it in was the fee increases and the stipulation you must use their Paypal to pay for items, or to be paid. Greed, greed, greed.

The one advantage to Ebay is that you can find hard to find items that you otherwise would never see anywhere else. I play with traditional (sort of) hot rods, and some of those old parts are not even showing up at swap meets any more. I have used Craigslist, but my local one rarely has parts or cars that are of interest to me. I just did sell my one daily driver 84 Ford that I no longer used on Craigslist, but I had to put up with stuff like "Do you have a carfax on it?," or, I don't have the money today, would you take payments?"

I just bought something on Ebay a month ago because I couldn't find it anywhere else, so I guess I will continue going there when I need to. But I used to be poring over ads every night for hours in the past. I must say, out of the maybe one thousand transactions I must have done on Ebay, I only got stung twice.

Finally, I did see one guy get all his money back on a bad deal. Young guy bought a used boat on Ebay and it broke down on the way home. Ad said everything was rebuilt. He was towed into our marina and we determined it had not been rebuilt. I wrote the guy a letter to that effect, he presented it to Ebay, and they sent him all his money back and told him to scrap the boat. That was a real shocker to me.

I use to use Ebay a lot. I sold between $4,000.00 to $,000.00 a year and bought about $2,000.00 a year. But I had a problem with a motorcycle I bought that was listed with a title and I never got the title. They did not help me out so I stop selling. I can see its not getting any better.

Now I only buy it I can not find it any were else. An then first I check there feed back. If its below 95% I do not buy from them.

Ebay is no different than anything else, you have to be very careful when you deal with people you don't know. Craigslist is the #1 scam site in the world...but I still use it alot.

I have bought and sold on ebay a lot. I haven't had any horror stories but I don't go there near as much as I used to. The economy has really slowed up my selling on there, but I still did $3000 this year. Also their fees along with Paypal's end up taking such a huge chunk, close to 20%. I might throw a few things on after Labor day and see what happens. I have also been having a lot better luck on C-list lately. I put a wood stove a golf cart and an A John Deere last month and sold them all.
I think you will see the IRS getting their fingers into the ebay pie pretty soon. I wouldn't be surprised if ebay doesn't start sending out 1099s.

I agree... fees on daBay have really gotten outta hand & I've had a few run in's with deadbeat bidders. I've started to use CL more now too! Like several people have said... you've always got to be careful doing business with people you don't know! And yes WB... I'm sure it won't be long B4 the IRS will get more involved. I've already heard about some of the big sellers being hit.
