I dont remember having this much trouble with small engine carbs.....I have been blaming it on Ethanol... water, Alcohol , corn or what ever its made of .. I can put some gas in a mnt. dew bottle to start a truck and leave it there over night and the next night it will be separated looks like water in the bottom of the bottle .. I just had a man who sounds like he knows what he is talking about . tell me Im wrong , there is no water in Ethanol its almost 100% pure alcohol .. so what the heck is messing up my carbs and eating the aluminum up and the rubbers ????And what is that stuff thats separated in the jar ???[S

That site was depressing... Only place is in pacific beach for 100 octane. Crappy fuels been eating at my crabs as well. Replacing gaskets about every 6 weeks.
$9.00 a gallon or $20 in gaskets?

That fella kinda made me think I was wrong on saying its the water or what ever its made from thats screwing up my stuff . Guess he wasnt to on the spot about whats going on with the small engines carbs and hoses

On older carbed engines, I've been replacing the stock gas hoses with ethanol rated fuel hoses. Just about every carb I've done in the last few years, have had little black particals clogging the needle and seat or getting hung up in a the small passageways in the carbs. It's the hose coming apart. Seems the ethanol likes to eat the hose. So far, the ones I've replaced the hose on, are still running. That hose cost quite a bit more but, it's worth it. That's all.

While there is no water in ethanol, it absorbs water from the atmosphere. that's what you are seeing in the coke bottle, water absorbed into the mix, then separating to the bottom, since water is heavier than fuel, gas or diesel. It's not as big a problem in vehicles that don't have vented fuel systems, but old style systems that vent directly to the atmosphere instead of to a charcoal vapor canister like newer ones do.

I'm lucky to have a station nearby that sells pure gas, premium only. I use it in all my small engines, my farm tractor, anything that will be sitting for a period of time between uses.

That one fella didnt like it worth a crap .. he didnt say it in so many words, just (YOU CAN'T BELIEVE EVERY THING THATS PUT ON THE INTERNET), Then he posted up a link about leaking tanks and such .... well how can my new mower have a leaking tank ? well I could have threw it right back at him and said so how is your different ? didnt it come from the internet ? But I didnt , best to just leave the forum .. others did agree .. Ethanol is some of the cause (or most) in my opinion, of the small engine problems. All I wanted to know was how to fix my mower problem ,, only one man give me the imfo. The others not so much . I dont do drama . ... If I stick my foot in my mouth ,, I do my best to make it right..If I cant fix it I'll just leave .. Come to think of it ,,,, I did start it ,, A member asked why would he suddenly have to choke his mower to keep it running ? I just said (ETHANOL ) Well that took over the poor mans post . I did tell him I didnt mean to take over his post .. Well I guess im done venting now .......... I know Ethol is not all the problems ,, but all that I have had in the past few years has been the carbs..

Let's see ~ Mower, weed eater, tiller, leaf blower and log splitter all run fine for 8+ years then ethanol came along and had to start rebuilding carbs in them every year... HMMM, then started running non-ethanol and haven't rebuilt carbs in 2 years.

I think your guy is wack... A simple google search on ethanol fuel issues shows plenty of evidence that there is an issue. Maybe he's been drinking a bit too much ethanol. [S

I'm in the marine business and the single biggest subject we have to talk to our customers about is ethanol gas. It has created more problems and more repairs than any other factor ever. Every week we were getting notices from companies like Mercruiser, Mercury, OMC, Yamaha, etc telling us what we were going to be facing with ethanol blended gas.

Every marine tech I know is getting rich rebuilding carbs, injectors, and the rest of the fuel system because of it. Even the additives, like Startron, or Stabil, only go so far in helping.

Here is a link to ethanol free gas stations in every State. Just click on the State box at the left top and then choose your State. It is a little more expensive, but it is so important to use it in things like boats and small engines.

Interesting comment. We have a refinery in our back yard and a friend used to drive for them. The refinery has a chain of its own stations but provides product for everybody in seven counties. The "good stuff" goes to themselves and those who demand spec, the rest get spec or maybe less, the "discount" stations get whatever is left.

Ethanol is no good for small engine, also no good in your carburetor engines over a long periods of time. I've dealt with both, and I don't use it in my small engines, except my new mower which is designed to run both.

Otherwise:

I run my tiller until all the gas is out, other wise it leave sludge in the fuel bowl which floats up and then clogs the needle valve... that reminds me I need to drain the fuel bowl in my tiller.... cause my neighbor used it and I don't know what gas he put in it....
