One night, around 76', we were watching a street race between a 62' Plymouth Savoy and a 70' Ford Torino. The Plymouth had a 383 and 4spd. The Torino had a 429 and 4spd. It was 2:00 am. Both cars on slicks. Did their burnouts, lined up, then took off. The Plymouth won.
We then noticed a black and white, sitting in a gas station, had been watching the race. When the 2 racers came back, the black and white pulled up and told the guy in the Torino, he should have left harder.:D
Then the black and white left (LAPD's finest) and everyone got the feeling that those were the 2 coolest cops in the valley.

Wish we had some like that around here!
I've been stopped many of times.

it helps to know all the state troopers in the county:rolleyes::D:D...we(me and my dad) work on all there cars....its a good thing, dad has a heavy foot:eek:......they all are good guys here.......rooster

Gasser,
That would never happen here. A couple of years ago I got 3 speeding tickets in 2 weeks all by the same gang of radar cops. Talkin' about bad attitudes!!!

well it was jan.1994,i was a partner in a auto repair shop and we had a couple of NMCA street cars..a 1965 chevy two and a 1967 chevy two...bad ass cars.one saturday night we went to the local cruise in down in tampa,we would always go to the bridges that cross tampa bay..and street race for $...so this night there was a new decuce in town...a 63 it looked good...we heard it ran in the 10s...our 67 ran in the low 9s...so the $ was handed over,we lined up on the bridge for the flashlight start..then that 63 started to kick our a$$....10s uh sure..it was a mid 8 car...well we got to the other end of the bridge..about 3 miles away with a helicoptor escort:(and 6 cop cars....was locked up for the night...cars were towed....and $1800 later i learned all about how not to street race...im older and wiser now...you know you do learn from your mistakes..to all you younger guys keep it on the track
its a lot safer.....thats my two cents about the cops:).....rooster

Sorry it happened :(
It seems the cops are gettin' younger and younger. Too young to have grown up in the Hot Rod generation. I was lined up for a street race when the cops pulled up. I was in a 65' Chevy Malibu SS, 454 with a 4spd on slicks. The other car was a V8 Vega, SBC with a tunnelram.
Me and the Vega drove slowly away when the cop pulled up and ordered me to stop my car. I pulled to the curb while the Vega drove away. 2 black and whites pulled in behind me and they inspected my car. I figured a cite for bald tires (slicks) cuz I hadn't raced yet. Nope, the cop gave me a cite for being too close to a fire hydrant. I explained that he ordered me to stop there. He didn't care.
After the cite, I found the Vega and we went somewhere else. Needed the money to pay for the cite. I won....:D

Ya You go to jail here.
Some of you may have never heard of Stephen Yagman, but to cops, he's the Prince of Darkness. Use to be a D.A., now specializes in suing cops.
Anyhow, him and his family use to live in Malibu. A CHP officer was driving his Vette to work, speeding on Pacific Coast Hwy. Yagman's wife recognized the officer and began pacing him. She followed him to the CHP office, walked in and demanded to see the Watch Commander. She explained that his officer was speeding to work and what was he gonna do about it. The Watch Commander brought the officer in and wrote him a cite.

Another time, on PCH, a CHP black and white sped by a car. The civilian figured that the officer had an emergency call. The civilian arrived at the restaurant, he was going to, and lo and behold, there was the same officer. Well, this civilian also owned the local newspaper and this story appeared. I heard the officer got a day off without pay, for speeding.

Hey rooster that sucks, I'm surprised I never heard that story. We used to race Gandy and 4th street all the time. The cops used to just show up flash their lights and tell us to move on, then came the ricer cars and that was the end of street racing in Tampa (for the most part) we really just had to be more sneaky. It was easier to just go over to sunshine for test and tune. But nothing can ever replace the memories at those two street spots.

i was on the 58 out of tehachapi heading towards bakersfield and got pulled over for 93 in a 65. i thought i was screwed, but after seeing i was navy, he said "be careful pulling back out into traffic, they drive fast around here." i couldnt believe it, but i sure did slow down (that time at least:rolleyes:)

In the late 60's there was a lot of street racing around Dayton, Ohio. Friday and Saturday nights was prime time on Lightner blvd and Fredrick Pike. Wasn't
unusual if 30 to40 cars showed up. One satuday night i ran 55 chevy 327. I had a 63 1/2 Galaxy 390. He gave me 1 car and i beat 1/2 a car. He wanted to run again but what the hey I had braging rights so back the Parkmore restaurant drive in I go. About a week later one night I get pulled over in
front of the highschool when a basketball game was letting out. Small town everbody knows everybody. He pulls his gun on me. Im blinded by his flashlight orders me out of the car. Now I've got my hands on the roof my back to the cop. He comes up behind me and says you know I would have beat you if we ran heads up now get out of here. Later we became friends
but he sure had my hart beating that night.

:eek:yikes, thats not cool buck. it's too bad you can't get away with anything anymore. it's the idiots out there that screwed it up for everyone else.

427 Ford

I grew up in the muscle car era. In 1964 I was sophomore in high school. We ate lunch in an outdoor area that looked out to the main drag in front of the school. There was a notorious street racer who was out of school but dated a girl that still went there. He had just gotten a new car... a white super stripped down cheapo '64 Ford Galaxie with a 427ci 4-speed. His favorite thing to do was these unbelievable burnouts right in front of the school while his girlfriend was eating lunch. The high school was not in Houston's city limits & they had a rinky dink police force there. He used to burnout a couple of times a week & the cops tried to hide & wait for him but by the time they even pulled out on the street... that sly dog was GONE!!! Believe me... that was pretty darn funny to a 16 year old kid!!! ; - >

Amazing he didn't dump the trans or rearend. Even stripped, those cars were heavy.

Gasser,
Those were big old motors but the way he drove... I'm sure he tore a whole bunch o stuff up! Sure was fun to see it though!

Friend of mine had an original 62' Galaxie 406" 4 spd. Car launched so hard, I swear the rims would kiss the pavement. He went through 4 top loaders, blew the posi, blew a detroit locker, then went to a mini spool. Then the car would break axles. Finally retired the car because it got too expensive breaking parts.

I love watching those big cars run. Galaxies and those swiss cheese Catalinas. :p
