Too many times....

I can recall a few times.....

1) Side by side with the wife, she in her red Mustang, me in my Austin Healey.
Pulled us both over. She got the warning "be more careful" ;). I got the ticket.

2) Same radar trap, motorcycle cop is starting to write me a ticket when 2 clueless jokers line up at the signal a couple hundred feet away. I have no idea if they saw the cop or not. Reving the heck out of their motors, the light turns and they are off in a cloud of smoke. The cop is literally foaming at the mouth, does he finish my ticket or go after them. In one move, wads up ticket and tosses it in my lap with one word: warning...:D By the time he gets his bike started they have hit the next intersection and gone different directions.
Didn't stick around to see the out come.

3) Had my uncles '58 vette, white, 283 with 2 4's, 4:11's and 3 speed with Hurst shifter. And my future wife. Drove by an area that was used for tire smoking quite a bit. No cops around, checked all the side streets, U turn, tap the clutch and hit the trottle. Look to my left, there is a cop car parked.
I pull to the curb before he even gets his lights on.
Get the usual lecture, but "seeing as I played it pretty cool" with them they would let it slide.
Then they ask us to get out of the car ???? They spent the next 5 minutes sitting in the car and checking it out. I STILL have no idea where that cop car came from......

That's enough for now... "22

I was in law enforcement for a time, and I know we have a couple guys working LE now. Shoot, we know not all cops are bad. Truth is, it is hard job, and one of the few occupations where people who don't know you, hate you for what you do for a living. I have lots of car stories, most involve someone doing something stupid behind the wheel. Don't get me wrong, when I was a kid, ( a younger kid that is), I did my share of street racing. Still, the last car show I went to, I knew I would probably get a ticket. Somehow they missed me. That is the one where I bent both rear springs and bent two air shocks trying to get a good wheelie on the main street. IE something stupid behind the wheel.

Been stopped quite a few times. Have since learned lesson. Worst case was...

5L Mustang, thought I was untouchable.

Blew a light I thought was yellow, turned out it was red. Just happened to be cops sitting in the parking lot at the light eating dinner. Saw them pull out right away and lights on. Don't know what I was thinking but I took off. Speed limit was 45 - I was going at least 105. Lots of traffic, me swerving in and out with no signals.

Next light I hook a HARD right and hit headlights. Left at first road and into carwash back parking lot. Here come cops - cops go by - cops come back.. (seems in my panic/confusion I left the car running and foot on brake (5 speed). Here come 2 more cops cars and paddy wagon..

Cop checks car/me. Asks if I was drinking or drugs. I wasn't. Asks why I ran, said I don't know. 7 tickets and $1200 later I am actually driving home. Imagine having to go home and tell the wife this..

Got lucky, wife's aunt works for police dept. and knows officer. Gives said officer BS story and he drops all but 3 tickets. Worst one was running a red light. 3 points $400 fine.

I learned a big lesson that night.
